I gotta say I hope Namor and Storm aren’t in this… If Boseman was still with us and starring in a BP sequel with Namor and Storm I would’ve been hyped. Now it’ll just make me sad and wonder what could’ve been. Im afraid I’m going to have that feeling as well no matter what they do if they don’t recast this character. And I’m not even doubting that what they’ll do will be good. Yeah, it’s not a question of quality at all. It’s just that it should be T’Challa’s story, and I will personally never agree with this choice they’ve made to continue without the franchise’s protagonist.

I'm holding out hope that they do ultimately recast him and that this film uses the opportunity to explore more of Wakanda without him (Because I do think Wakanda is worthy of being about more than T'Challa), BUT, if they really chicken out and fail to continue this character, it's a giant disservice to Boseman himself, the fans, the story, and did I mention Boseman? There is nothing respectful about retiring this character. It would just be the fear of being disrespectful. The way to honor Boseman is to continue what he started. No question about it.

I hate to tell you but I think that hope is in vain. The odds of them recasting in movie three is extremely unlikely. This is likely a final decision. And even if they did do that it would likely be too late. His story needs to continue now. So much of the character was tied into his country and it’s place in the world. I don’t think they could even skip a movie without it ruining his arc. Absolutely agree with everything else you said though. Not recasting is a decision I’m still struggling to comprehend. Such a bad call.

It's a shame really, because I don't see how, no matter how good what they do is, that I'll ever been able to not sit there wondering what would have been, or being to appreciate any mantle passing they do. And I sincerely have no idea what anybody finds offensive about recasting. It's not like we're forgetting him. I just don't get it. It's so regrettable.

I don’t think I can ever watch the movie. Every cool moment will just have me wondering about what it should have been. Namor arrives in Wakanda? Can’t enjoy it if T’Challa isn’t there to meet him. We’re being denied the real movie and the script that was already written. I feel somewhat guilty complaining about a movie when a real person is tragically gone. But like you said, I really do believe that discontinuing this character is like discontinuing his legacy. And let’s be honest, this franchise is going to go into a tailspin without its protagonist.

Hell maybe she'll wind up being Black Panther. Kill two birds with one stone.

What if Riri ends up being T'challa bastard love child? We don’t need this becoming a soap opera. Maybe a melodrama.

I personally was in favor of recasting, though knowing there is literally no way for them to please everyone, I'm going to try to be open minded towards whatever they choose to do. As good as the Namor\T'Challa rivalry is in the comics, I'm stoked about Namor being introduced, even without T'Challa. I'll certainly still think about what could have been, but Namor is a great character regardless, with ties to so many others they can use. The only things I'm worried about with him being introduced, is them downplaying his arrogance, making him just a villain, or killing him too soon. I want him to be around for a long while, to interact with other Marvel leaders we might meet later.
As for Riri, introducing her in a Black Panther movie is interesting. I think having her armor look more Wakanda inspired could be cool, though I don't like the possibility of it being vibranium.

Cautiously optimistic about this project, but I recognize the difficulty in pulling this off. I would have been stoked if they tried a T'Chaka movie or a movie about the unification of the tribes under the first Black Panther and the subsequent ascension of the Panther cult.

A few movies fleshing out the history of the universe in general would be cool. I imagine we'll get a little of that sort of thing with The Eternals.

Seems like a mistake. I get the awkwardness and the timing of it all, but it seems like a waste for the character.

I hope they don't CGI his ass. It's like a metaphor for being soulless.

It worked just good enough that I didn't dislike it for Tarkin but it still seemed weird. Did you hear about the whole thing with a movie securing the rights to use a CGI James Dean? I'm still waiting to see how it pans out. I get using CGI tricks here and there to recreate a presence, but using a deceased actor in a supporting or starring role is weird.
I'll say this about Tarkin though. I was really relieved when a bartender at my restaurant said he was sure Peter Cushing was dead but had a moment of doubt in the film. I was just stoned enough watching Rogue One in the theater to say wait, hasn't he been dead for years? Whaaaat?
At least it was better than Leia in Rise of Skywalker, in my opinion.

@phistosgauntlet
I haven't really followed it because, like the guy in the vid says, i don't think any petition is gonna sway the studios plans....especially with a main character. But my own two cents...Im perfectly ok with T'challa the character being written out or killed off in universe to accommodate the unfortunate death of Boseman. I think i do prefer that route as opposed to recasting. I think it's safe to say for pretty much anyone watching these movies is that Boseman IS T'challa. I'd say he's as linked to that character as pretty much anyone else in the Avengers roster. Hard to recast any of the big timers this many movies deep and have it play off well. I would like to see the character remain though, however they plan on doing it. Pretty much any superhero has transitioned to a new person behind the mask in comics so it shouldn't be that hard to make it believable. I'm mostly just wondering who they'll pick. I don't really think Shuri fits the role, even tho she apparently has done so in comics. It being the lineage of the King of Wakanda makes me wonder how they determine a new king now. M'Baku wouldn't be bad imo.

I have definitely heard his brother say this and I absolutely believe Chadwick would have wanted this role recast. Not recasting is a mistake. A massive mistake. Piss off with the idea that it’s disrespectful or that burying this character is respectful. No it is not. What is respectful is carrying on the legacy of T’Challa when Chadwick can’t. What is respectful is giving a new young actor a chance to build this role. What is respectful is finishing what was started. They must recast this role.

My thoughts on the topic of recasting T'Challa:Marvel is in a no-win situation - and by that I don't mean the film won't be successful, as I'm sure it will be no matter what. I thought there was a petition to NOT recast the role as well. I guess it just all depends on which gets the most? You can be sure there'll be those throwing insults and accusations if they do recast the role (even when apparently Chadwick Boseman's own brother says he would've wanted the role recast). When petitions start controlling the movies...it's time to worry (thank goodness that one to recast Captain Marvel didn't achieve a thing...unless The Marvels is a stealth attack and Carol's going to be written out ). I think that they're trying so hard to please EVERYONE and not offend anyone that they're actually getting in their own way of making the right decisions. I mean, if they put off making the movie, people would question why they're taking so long to make the one movie with an African American lead (not counting Blade). So, they're in a rush to get it out there, but in so doing they seem to be scrabbling to work around Chadwick's absence from the film. Maybe if they'd waited a year or two, those against recasting T'Challa might've been more open to it. I just think that no matter what they decide to do, there are going to be those who are unhappy and even some who are 'offended'. Really, they should just approach it like they would any other MCU film if an actor passed away and they still wanted to tell stories with the character that actor portrayed. There's no reason to overthink this so much.

There's no reason to overthink this so much. I just don’t see what the problem is. Just recast. Who is offended by that? Chadwick certainly wouldn’t have been. Why are we pretending this is a problem and that abruptly changing course and leaving an obvious giant hole is somehow better? It’s not. It’s an obvious giant hole whether you write him out or not, so just carry on with this character and honor what Chadwick started instead of burying it with him. It’s such a no brainer decision I have no idea why it’s even a debate.
