Making Shuri the new Black Panther for a minute seemed like a no-brainer until the issue of how does she get the powers comes up. That's a tough one to get around, although there's a lot to be said for the suit.
Beneath the armor, Iron Man was just a man too.
Beyond what the suit may make up for, Shuri (if I recall correctly, which I may not) is the only surviving character who has a familial claim to the throne, and I don't think it would go over well if she just gave it away. Spiderman's smart but he's naive; I don't see Shuri getting conned out of it like he did.
But unless T'Challa has kids we never knew about, I don't know who else is even eligible to apply to reign.

No doubt they all of a sudden have a secret back up plantation for the heart shaped herb. And they can organise the ritual combat to determine who will be the new King and Black Panther. M'Baku stands a good chance I reackon. But if that will all appeal to me... I doubt it.

I'm not sure Shuri appeals to me either even if I think it makes the most sense. I don't see a recast. For a minute on the other page it almost seemed possible, but can they recast a character that big? And if they don't, does that mean T'Challa's dead in the MCU? And if he is, what killed him? Bucky will want to know.
I am also expecting a backup secret garden of the stuff.

If they can recast Bruce Banner they can recast T'Challa. Personally I think they should recast but thats not the most popular opinion.

It was early enough in the franchise that I didn't get that Mark Ruffalo was a replacement for Norton. At the time I thought Mark Ruffalo as Hulk was Hulk's first appearance in the MCU.
I'm not opposed to recasting T'Challa, it just seems like a Herculean task because the movie became so big.
Actually if I thought it could work, I'd say make Black Panther into an animated series like the What If's, with the only recast required being T'Challa's voice.
Or have Wanda or Dr Strange will a different Black Panther into being, pull him from another dimension. Maybe John David Washington!

The leader of the ostracized faction being in charge is potentially more interesting than just having a sibling assume the mantle.

This is incredible, and a massive development. It's no small character to bring in Namor. It's a statement. Can't wait to see where this goes. I will however restate, that because of this, I really really really really really really really want them to recast T'Challa. You're missing so much here if they don't, and I absolutely do not buy any reason I've heard for not doing it. Chadwick would want it, his brother confirms that, the characters deserves it, the community deserves it, the story deserves it. Recast T'Challa!!!

I gotta say I still think it was a mistake not to recast. There's a chance they could in the future but I think they didn't want to do it so soon after Chadwick death. Personally I would have pushed Black Panther 2 back and focus on another property.

Personally I would have pushed Black Panther 2 back and focus on another property. Yeah, I think a recast needed a long delay first. Coming out next year with a new actor as T’Challa would’ve felt way too soon. But a four or five year postponement would’ve worked. And that’s what I think they should’ve done. I hate to be cynical but I think this is partially about the studio not wanting to miss that 2022 release date.

I've noticed that Disney for some reason is hesitant to miss a release date with any major release. The pandemic notwithstanding.

It could be that they simply knew it was too soon to do it, but weren’t willing to change that date.

Truth is Disney still wanted that Black Panther money and didn't want to delay. They probably didn't give a shit about him dying to be perfectly honest.

I gotta say I hope Namor and Storm aren’t in this… If Boseman was still with us and starring in a BP sequel with Namor and Storm I would’ve been hyped. Now it’ll just make me sad and wonder what could’ve been.

To be honest, yes it's tragic that he passed but it shouldnt interfere with future movies. Let's put things into perspective, it's not like he was President or a war hero. Just an actor like anyone else in the biz

And I’m not even doubting that what they’ll do will be good.
