I hate to say this, but the more I think about it, the more I think, I don’t know that I’ll be able to watch this if they don’t continue with T’Challa. I just feel the only honor here is finishing that character’s story. Letting it live on. I really don’t know that I’ll be able to enjoy the film without that character because I’ll know the whole time I’m watching it that it was meant to be his story. I don’t think I can do it. Whatever Marvel decides, Im sure it will be fine. This aint DC

Mexican American actor Tenoch Huerta rumored for villain role! Is this Namor? Well Namor has been an antagonist, not sure if he was ever an outright villain though. Maybe Lord Death Man knows? Namor truly defies conventional labels as a comic book character. He's been a hero, villain and anti-hero - sometimes all in the same story.

I somehow doubt they even know what the word 'nuance' means. They seem to pretty 'black/white' thinkers. You either think like them or you don't and if you don't then they come after you with pitchforks and torches. That's why you'll never see my real name on there. They can rage all they want at "MCUKnowhere", but they'll never find the man behind the username.

It’s just deep down there are so many reasons I feel the need, and I mean need, to keep T’Challa that not doing so would be a fundamental ingredient I just don’t think I’ll want to see it without, no matter how good it is. It would feel like a cowardly mistake to me.

I would have preferred that they end the series altogether and create a spinoff set in Wakanda with a new character. There's a lot less money in that, but here's also a whole lot more dignity.

I just can’t get behind any reason not to recast. I see only good things from doing it, and the idea of taking that character away, really truly feels like one of those overly polite things that nobody really needs. We can honor him and finish the story he started at the same time. Not doing that, feels a total waste and I genuinely find that to be the offensive proposition in this scenario. Let him live. Don’t be afraid to let that legacy live on. It’s so positive.

A sudden breakup at the height of their creative powers left no opportunity for artistic decline. If we're 100% transparent, a sophomore effort in the franchise will more than likely be just that — a sophomore effort. Unless we get something of Winter Soldier level quality, the juice would not have been worth the squeeze, and the King’s legacy would have been used to promote an "ultra mega OK" film.

That just isn’t a consolation for me. He wasn’t done yet and I feel he deserves his arc just like Steve and Tony and everybody else. I don’t believe for a second that Chadwick himself would want it any other way. It’s a disservice to both the character and Chadwick not to IMO.

I wonder why you would automatically assume that a sequel would be mediocre though? If this logic applied to all superhero movies we wouldn’t even have an mcu.

Especially since they aren’t even delaying the filming date.

Did they really decide not to and agree to have the script rewritten with that deadline already? I suppose it’s possible but IDK

I'm using the law of averages for sequels across all major blockbuster categories, not just CBMs. Part 2 of anything is rarely ever appreciably better than part 1. This is why the ESBs and Winter Soldiers of the blockbuster landscape are so lauded amongst fans - against all odds; they managed to exceed their predecessors. Black Panther 2 must do exactly that, and no less, or else it's arguable that it just isn't worth doing. The stakes were already high for BP2; now, given Boseman's untimely demise, they couldn't be any higher.

To make Shuri the new BP would require a major rewrite. And with no delay that would be difficult. And on that note, the fact that a script is written already is another reason why I think a recast is the right choice. We can at least see what Boseman would’ve been playing as opposed to just throwing the script away.

Though I don’t really see how the odds against a great sequel were any worse than any other property before his death. In any case, it’s a moot point because we know that they are filming next year.

I don't know much about his character, but retiring it permanently sounds like a pretty drastic move. I could understand canceling the whole franchise out of respect. Honestly if I were in charge I would definitely delay it. Filming next year does seem a bit too soon. But if they are to continue then I just don’t see how retiring the character permanently and replacing him is the right solution if they are going to capitalize on the franchise anyway next year.

Whatever Marvel decides, Im sure it will be fine. This aint DC Its not that it won’t be good. I’m sure it will be the best possible version of whatever they want to do. It’s just deep down there are so many reasons I feel the need, and I mean need, to keep T’Challa that not doing so would be a fundamental ingredient I just don’t think I’ll want to see it without, no matter how good it is. It would feel like a cowardly mistake to me. Well marvel is becoming more pc so I guess I understand that concern. It all lies in the script for me, if it's good then fine. Just not Shuri please, for the love of God. Have nothing against females being in charge. It's just too soon. She's the smart, tech girl (leave her as is, even though yes she's his sister)

Seems Tenoch Huerta is now rumored to be a character called White Tiger. I’ve never heard of him, but a quick google search reveals that he is a Latino character so it could be likely.

Not recasting the character was really the most respectful thing to do. Sorry for the fans that wanted otherwise... but it has to be about the legacy now, and not the man.

Sorry for the fans that wanted otherwise... but it has to be about the legacy now, and not the man. In all honestly I find it completely disrespectful. I don’t believe Chadwick would want this first of all, and it cripples the series now no matter who they try to move on with. Anything they do now will be awkward. There’s no honor or respect in that IMO, and it deeply goes against how I personally deal with death in a way I can’t possibly respect. You carry on. You finish what was started. This is giving up. I resent this choice as a human being.

I’ll double down on my insistence that they need to recast T’Challa If Coogler is saying that Boseman would have wanted them to keep going, then surely that means he’d also want them to keep T’Challa. This role needs recast so bad. Everybody wins
