Gunn said that there's two post credit scenes for the film. So my guess is that Weasel is "killed" near the beginning of the film and there's a post credit scene that shows us that he's still alive. Seems like something Gunn would do. Called it!

Well, there was only one thing I needed to know/one question I cared about answering - whether Harley survived or not. It had been quite stressful not knowing, but I eventually got my answer and now I can just patiently wait for the movie to be released on DVD/Blu-ray.

It's weird. Im not entirely sure how to evaluate this film as I enjoyed the first one. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed the film but I felt there was something missing and Im not entirely sure what that is just yet. Perhaps it will come to me later or after a second viewing. I suspect my expectations were too high from both the score and what Gunn did with Guardians 1. To me that is the better film and a better soundtrack to boot. Starro was awesome. The characters had their moments. Decent enough story. Incredible action. Nathan Fillion was just hilarious, just so silly. Cena was surprisingly good. That's all Ill say for now. Oh and Grace was just so dramatic with her views on the film....

What should I go in expecting? Is it disturbing or just cartoonish type stuff like Deadpool?

It usually has more to do with how realistic it’s portrayed than the action itself, if that makes sense. I can watch old westerns and mafia movies all day, but in modern movies when the shot to the head looks photorealistic, it’s a bit much.

I can watch old westerns and mafia movies all day, but in modern movies when the shot to the head looks photorealistic, it’s a bit much. I totally understand where you're coming from. I myself am not someone who watches shows/movies for the gore, but rather in spite of it (ie. I will put up with it if a show/movie interests me). I'm especially not fond of graphic facial violence (such as faces being ripped/blown off) or eye violence (eyes being pierced in closeup or torn out). Anyway, since I have no intention of seeing this movie at the theatre (I spoiled myself to find out who lived/died, as I needed to know) and will wait for it on DVD/Blu-ray, I went to the IMDB 'Parents Guide' for the movie and saw what it listed under the 'violence & gore' section. I've basically copied & pasted it into here, but removed character names (replacing them with the more vague 'someone') so it's not as spoilery (I also left out some of the parts that didn't sound too bad). Hope this helps you reach a decision. **vague spoilers below (yes, I know there's a spoiler thread for the movie elsewhere, but I'm addressing a post in this thread - hence why it's here)** Someone gets their face blown off and the extremely graphic results are shown in closeup. Someone dies in a helicopter crash, they're shown burning to death and there's a shot of their charred up body. Someone gets impaled by a tree trunk and multiple sticks pierce their face and then they get engulfed in flames from the wrecked helicopter crash. Someone is shot in the chest multiple times with blood spraying. Someone has their head blown off. Blood, gore, and meat spray. Someone is crushed. This is very sudden and a loud squishing noise is heard. Someone is shot in the neck and blood pours out. Someone is ripped apart/splattered across a window. Someone is killed by being shot in the stomach. Tons and tons of blood pour out and the entire floor is covered in extremely bloody puddles. Someone is impaled in the heart with a piece of sharp tile. The camera cuts to a shot of their heart getting pierced and blood gushes out. Mutilated test subjects of an extremely sinister government experiment are shown. Someone's entire torso is cut open and lots of exposed entrails are shown. Someone's entire chest and abdomen are skinned. Someone's face is completely missing and lots of gore and meat are shown.

Though I do understand what you mean about how sometimes things can sound worse than they actually are. One such example of this, I found, was with Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020). I went to see it at the theatre on the day it was released here and there wasn't yet a 'Parents Guide for it on IMDB, so I went into it not knowing what sort of violence there was going to be. If I'd known beforehand that there was going to be the cutting/peeling off of faces, I mightn't have been so eager to check out the film. However, since they didn't show it in gratuitous detail, it didn't actually bother me too much. Whereas in The Suicide Squad it sounds like they're showing the gore in close-up grisly detail.

Are any of the deaths poignant? Or are they all just played for shock value?
I was surprised to learn that Polka Dot Man dies. Based on his dialogue in the trailer I assumed he’d be one of the survivors.

I do think that the level of violence in this film can be a big turnoff for people. James Gunn did not hold back with the violence. Lots of grotesque and bloody kills, a lot of it was straight out of horror subgenres like Slashers and body horror.
Gunn wanted a R rated film and he definitely delivered on that.
So I think it's safe to say that this isn't a film for everyone.

And I expected most would be for shock/dark humor. There’s a lot of character deaths after all and this thing wouldn’t be fun if they were all poignant. What about Polka Dot Man though? Is it supposed to be at all sad when he dies? Based on the description it sounds like it’s supposed to be funny- which seems a bit odd given that he’s literally suicidal.

He does get a little heroic scene before his death tho.

Not a spoiler but I really dont wana say more in the general thread until more have seen it, but it's so obvious Bloodsport was meant to be Deadshot. Not sure why they had to keep that certain type of character around. Sport was great though and at least he wore his headpiece more

@ghostyghostington
Also, thanks to doesthedogdie.com (a very useful site, I've found, if you're like me and HATE to see animals in peril or maimed in any way), I discovered there's some animal deaths...
Approximately 50 seconds into the film (when a character is bouncing a ball around his cell) a bird is gruesomely killed (it’s quite graphic) and around an hour in a lot of birds get blown up/burned alive. Both are incredibly graphic, and the second features lots of auditory screams that could be distressing.
Harley mentions that “an abusive ex” killed her dogs. There’s also a brief shot of a dog that’s scared while the city is in peril towards the end.

Just saw it on hbo max and i was super pleased with it.
Plan on going out to spend money on it in the theatre this week some time. It will give me the big screen thrill and i know its worth the price of admission. Cant wait.
I loved so many of these characters. Robbie is always brilliant as Harley and really knows that character front and back by now...her breakout scene is epic. Up there with Magnetos in X2 for my money. So great. I also read that she actually turned the key with her foot in that shot. Impressive...and kind of hot. Elba is always fantastic. His character, Bloodsport, obviously feels a lot like Smiths Deadshot...but i dont mind that. I thought he stood out plenty here and his broken relationship with his daughter added something extra for me here. Cena is brilliant. I really enjoy Cena as a comedic actor. He's got good timing and he's perfectly physical for these action comedies. Peacemaker as a character is hilarious. Douchey Captain America indeed and his rivalry with Bloodsport, especially during the village invasion scene, was great. Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher was a big surprise for me. I don't know the actress and i dont know the character but both won me over during this movie in spades. She really works as the heart of the film basically being the catalyst for Bloodsport and King Shark becoming better 'people'. That smokey voice and Portugese accent are winners too in my book. I loved her. Stallone as the voice of King Shark....could easily be written off as this movies Groot...but i thought, just like in Groot, there was a lot more happening with this character than just comedic timing. From what i recall he's nothing like his comic book counterpart...but he's great in a goofball and simple minded way. Steals most of his scenes altho i kind of wish they did more with him near the end. Im glad we got to know Flagg also...they didn't flesh his character out at all in the first one and here i really liked him. Polka dot man was cool too...very crazy and with a wacky strong power...but really cool. That actor is everywhere and he always pulls through. TDK was great...Fillion is always a win for me. Weasel was funny. I'd welcome more of this type of film...so long as it leaves room for other 'types' of superhero movies that aren't all the same vibe.
