It’s killing me watching people walk out of a theater, RIGHT NEXT DOOR! To the hotel I’m staying at for work, and I haven’t seen this movie yet. I have to. I’m feeling the itch. I need it. The reviews are fire. The lady trailer got me in. I’m going to have trouble sleeping. Gonna see it tomorrow. And Sunday it will be carnage during the review. My knives have been sharpened. My guns cleaned and oiled. I have got my canon locked and the bombs are set. Im ready to fucking destroy this movie and reduce it to the pile of shit it actually is. Or its really really good. Not likely but possible. I can confirm I am seeing it tomorrow!!!! Probably mid afternoon so I’ll be here to write my thoughts. I’ll unfortunately be tied up for the podcast review though which makes me sad :-(

Hey everybody, Grandmaster, sorry I missed Hawkeye yesterday y'all. I was up for a couple of days in a row there and I slept all day yesterday. I will be there at 6pm EST today( Sunday) for the Spider-Man review, I have been keeping my mouth shut about the movie so far, looking forward to discussing it.

So just for comparison and an appreciation of where Spider-Man fits in the lexicon of superheroes. Spider-Man has now had 8 live action feature films starting in 2002 Superman has had 7 live action feature films starting in 1951 (Superman and the Mole-Men) Batman has had 8 live action feature films starting in 1966 (Batman: The Movie) I think in the entire world of superheroes in terms of popularity and cultural impact, the big 3 are Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Some other Spider-Man trivia: he's had at least 8 animated series (not counting Spider-Woman in 1979), a daily newspaper comic strip (for over 40 years), a live action TV series (77-79), a live action Japanese TV series (78-79), and he had regular appearances on "The Electric Company" on PBS in the 70's. He is by far the most popular character in Marvel comics history and has been all the way back to the 1960's. In 1987 when Spidey and MJ finally tied the knot in the comics, a live wedding ceremony was held in a sold out Shea Stadium during a Mets game in NYC with actors playing the happy couple and other Marvel icons, and Stan Lee there to officiate the ceremony. dangerousminds.net/comments/i_thee_web_spider-man_and_mary_jane_get_married_at_shea_stadium_1987

My God, you guys. This was a movie. I’m gonna see it again after Xmas, formulate some thoughts and write a review. But for now I can tell you that this thing was a MOVIE! The images were projected on a screen and I viewed them with my eye balls. Lots of FANBOYYING OUT ensued.
Be back on 27th to post more thoughts…

Tom Holland’s Spidey was actually a much bigger highlight than I expected. Finally they added some emotional weight to his franchise. I love that his actions now have real dramatic consequences.
Easily the best of the Home trilogy. Not even close. I’m officially a big fan of MCU Spidey now!

That ending was perfect. Easily the best of the Home trilogy. I’m officially a big fan of MCU Spidey now! Yeah that ending felt like a ending you would expect from a Spider-Man comic. Not everything goes the way Peter wants and sometimes he has to sacrifice his own happiness for the greater good. They really nailed that with this film. This is my favorite Spider-Man movie. Not sure how they can top it but I'm definitely looking forward to where they go next with the character.

And they just weren’t there in Holland’s first two entries. I’m really excited for the future of this character now.

Could Tobey and Andrew return to the MCU? Maybe in a Secret Wars adaptation? My prediction of Spidey variants fighting alongside Thor variants could come true!

Probably a unpopular option for some bit after watching this film I want a big Spider-Verse event film. Tom Holland Spider-Man Tobey Maguire Spider-Man Andrew Garfield Spider-Man Miles Morales Spider-Man Spider-Gwen Ben Riley Spider-Man Noir Spider-Man Miguel O'Hara Spider-Man (2099) Spider-Girl Spider-Woman Silk There's so many different variants they can play around with.

I don’t think “bigger is better” necessarily, but the spectacle of all the MCU heroes and all their multiple variants could certainly pass the spectacle of End Game’s portal battle. Who knows, maybe past MCU villains could return too? So many wonderfully bizarre possibilities!

I mean I’ll be honest, I thinner they didn’t a great job, but whatever it is about these crossovers that is super exciting so many and sparking the emotional responses I felt during Infinity War and Endgame, is lost on me here. I mean I get it. I really do. But it doesn’t resonate with me. I think it needed to happen. Marvel is the only studio that could do this right and this was the only chance to do it. It’s just foreign. As in it’s about the genre as a whole and my loyalty and emotional response lies specifically with what they’ve accomplished. Their own work.

I think the vast majority of variants will be completely new though. Like the Thor Corps, which will likely comprise of Beta Ray Bill, Frog Thor, etc: multiverse alts, but still original MCU versions.

I was just thinking about it and the best way I can sum it up is I’m an MCU fan first. I’m a CBM genre fan too, but if their films start being celebrations of the genre I can appreciate it, but my reaction is more “well this doesn’t belong” instead of the excitment genre fans first might feel. Although t they were extremely clever with how they handled this. So I give them credit.

Secret Wars, Thor LaT and Dr Strange MoM will likely be more of an exploration of a wholly original MCU multiverse, similar to what we saw in Loki. Though the latter will most likely have a cameo or two from the old X Men movies.
