So who's going to see this film? I'm definitely going to try and see it this weekend. I don't have any interest tbh. But I am curious to see how it does opening weekend. It had a modest budget compared with your typical Marvel or DC movie at $75M.

Film wasn't very good. Not the worst comic book movie but definitely wasted potential. Jared Leto was the best thing about the film, which surprised me. Matt Smith desperately tried to work with what he was given but unfortunately his character is just another villain who mirrors the hero trope. And don't get me started on those post credit scenes, especially the second one. I wish I made YouTube videos so i can rant about that.

The #MorbiusSweep hashtag is like Rap Music. It's out of control. Last tweet contains (funny AF) SPOILERS.

Such a shame that this movie is being critically slammed. Same with that Netflix Bubble film

And the audiences have spoken. #Morbius is the 2nd worst Marvel adaptation of all time. And Marvel Studios remains the only studio who can consistently get CBMs right and it’s because they actually care about their product. This is why I have reached the end of my rope with Sony, WB, and the former Fox. It’s like going to eat at a restaurant with a Health Code Violation notice posted on the door. Just don’t go in. screenrant.com/morbius-cinema-score-second-lowest-marvel-movie/amp/

This is why I have reached the end of my rope with Sony, WB, and the former Fox. It’s like going to eat at a restaurant with a Health Code Violation notice posted on the door. Just don’t go in. screenrant.com/morbius-cinema-score-second-lowest-marvel-movie/amp/Sony has a formula they're using with movies like Venom and Morbius, and to a certain extent, it is working. It's so transparent that I lose a little more faith in humanity every time one of these movies opens with a huge weekend. I watched the trailer for one of the Venom films the other day, and there was a scene where Venom leaps around a room, attacking generic soldier types. He hacks and slashes at them as he leapfrogs from one to the next. Morbius has nearly the same sequence with a different character and modified special effects. The two anti-heroes even have similar played-for-laughs scenes where they intimidate bumbling bad guys with their razor-sharp teeth and terrible quips. They even fight evil analogs of each other in all their films. People accuse the MCU of delivering on a copy-and-paste product, but these Sony Spider-Man Universe movies (that don't feature Spider-Man) are almost literal copies of each other. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony creates random special effect-driven fight sequences to be inserted into these spin-offs well in advance of scripts being written. I honestly don't care who wants to waste their money on these throwback releases. I'm perfectly willing to live and let die. The ultimate problem with these films is that they're slowly eroding the goodwill that the Marvel Studios brand has built over a long period. Sony is getting a massive lift by planting that big red logo in front of the film because it fills seats like a church bell on Sunday morning. Casual audiences still don't know the difference between Marvel films released by different studios. I just asked my nephew about this, and he flippantly said that he didn't like Morbius, but it's okay because he knows it's leading to Midnight Sons with Moon Knight, Dr. Strange, Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, and Ghost Rider. I couldn't even continue the conversation… I feigned a headache and hung up. This sick part of that conversation is that upon hanging up, I said to myself, "what if he's right?" Sony will clog up cinemas for years to come with these color-by-number releases, and it's going to hasten fatigue amongst general audiences. CBMs will go the way of the Western due to oversaturation and low-quality offerings. If they're not going to give up the character, Sony needs Marvel's guidance or flat-out oversight in constructing their "shared" universe.

Hmm to be fair both Venoms werent highly rated by critics either. Both made a big sum of money too.
Morbius' audience rating is still ok but lower than the Venoms. Box office still remains to be seen
Honestly I dont think it's fair to put all this reputational damage on Sony with the Marvel brand in general. Let's just all remember that Sony was in the game before the MCU and the movies were quite successful. No one tries to make a bad or mediocre film intentionally

The online rating means next to nothing because people vote who haven’t seen it, etc.

Now the director is suggesting that the movie is a setup for the Sinister Six movie. The Sinister Six is something I had been wanting since Tobes spiderman...but ill be honest, No Way Home quenched that thirst for me. I'm perfectly fine without a Sinister 6 for the foreseeable future. Especially one filled with 'not bad guys'.

Let’s see; Ock, Goblin, Electro, Sandman, Lizard, Venom (not that he was really in it). But yeah. Not only are there 6, but it was a genuine villain team up. And even better that the villains all had more complex motivations. Ock and Sandman were much more sympathetic. Electro and Goblin more sinister (he he he),,,,,,,,, I actually didn’t mean that. I know I wasn’t as ra ra re as the bulk of the fandom but you now have me thinking about it and wanting to rewatch it. They really did a amazing job with it.

Yea I mean it felt close enough that it satisfied seeing that on the big screen for me. The one oddball decision was Sandman who in the film has no real reason to align himself with the other villains as all he wants to do is go home. I guess you could argue he's just there for the button but it still didn't make sense him leaving the apartment with the others. Ock at least reveals he was playing them, waiting for an opening. A larger issue is that too many villains nowadays become antiheroes, or just flat out heroes. I want more villains who are criminals for the sake of it, or have legitimate nefarious purposes. Even if i understand where they come from I don't want to sympathize with them.

When Marvel reengaged with Sony for the third film, their writing and producing team suggested using the multiverse to fast-track the introduction of the Sinister Six. Only the CBM gods know how Sony would have pulled off their version of the Sinister Six without the multiverse concept. I envision them all just meeting at a hotdog stand in midtown. And they're still stuck on stupid with the Sinister Six. How many times can you assemble the same team? Maybe they think there's another 2B to be made on immediately revisiting the same idea with different characters. Sony's anti-hero train will keep moving with more Venom, Kraven, Silver Sable, and Black Cat.

Maybe they think there's another 2B to be made on immediately revisiting the same idea with different characters. Sony's anti-hero train will keep moving with more Venom, Kraven, Silver Sable, and Black Cat. Yea I don't know what their plan is. Admittedly Ive not seen any of the Venom films or Morbius, so I haven't been attached at the hip to the Sonyverse like either the MCU or DC films. But if they were to greenlight an Amazing Spiderman 3 after the success of No Way Home and the fan support that Andrew Garfields spiderman received in particular...and were able to land him into a 3rd Amazing film...I think theyd see the numbers they want regardless of how good the film actually is. If they did that and featured Kraven as the main antagonist, I would almost definitely go see it. But as much as I love comic book villains, these solo villain films don't garner any interest with me. Unless they sold me on the villainy. Actually focus on a villains rise to power and I may be interested. There was a fun one off I read years ago called Empire. The story really only started after a Doctor Doom type villain had already won, and focuses on his struggle to maintain his empire against rebellious heroes and insurrection from his own side. At the time I read it it felt very fresh and against type to follow protagonists on the evil side. They weren't secretly good either like there was definitely some torture, murder, and a variety of assaults to be had.

Campea took the audience rating seriously and he mentioned them being verified. He was also apparently the amc movie news editor-in-chief in the past

Down the line maybe they should do a Chameleon/Kraven team-up. Easier to juggle. Kraven the beast on the ground. Chameleon maybe in politics developing a program or weapon to defeat the Spider-Man. Chameleon in the clandestine services would be pretty cool too. Just spitballing here lol.

I don't ever want to see sinister six. It makes no sense to me. If each of those villains is supposed to be a serious challenge to Spider-Man then he would have no chance against all 6 of them at once. They would have to have some totally random deux ex machina thing happen in order for Spidey to win. If he just plain beats them then it means that each of those villains was never a serious threat. I much prefer good 1 on 1 fight stories. At most maybe 2 villains team up. No Way Home Worked because there were 3 Spideys and Doc Ock turned good.

Anyway Morbius was not the worst CBM ever but it wasn't good either. I can say it was just OK. It has some good points and multiple problems. Also the problems that exist for the Sony Marvel Universe just keep growing.

But don't you want to see the Sinister Six in their own spin-off movie doing semi-sinister things for the good of humanity? Hey Doc, I'm thinking, maybe we should team up. Hmmm… what for? I'm leery of teaming up with other anti-heroes. Well, because teaming up is the thing to do right now. Okay, see you in five years after a few more solo movies. Maybe we'll have an in-story reason by then. I'd love to see the film where they all try to run an iHop together.
