Though its one of the weaker movies I think he opening of Spectre is the best in the franchise. The Dia de Muerto setting is thematically perfect and fun to look at. The single shot is impressive, despite the obvious cheats. The moment where Bond leaves the girl is such a perfect Bond moment: "I won't be long." 😎 And the humor works too- love that couch gag!
What say you?

What say you? Apologies. I misread the subject title of your post as 'Best Bond Opening Credits Sequence' and I figured the reason why the one from Spectre was your favourite was because of the abundance of octopi and and writhing naked inky octopus ladies. My answer was going to be the one from Casino Royale (2006). I already really enjoyed Chris Cornell's 'You Know My Name' when I first heard it on the radio, but it was even better when hearing it playing over the visually-stunning opening credits sequence for the movie. The simplistic-looking silhouettes and the four different suits of the cards (hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds) being incorporated into the main titles (complete with a quick reveal of Eva Green's face at one point as the Queen of Spades) make them the the most imaginative and visually-exciting I've ever seen. Watching them on the big screen, it was a visual feast for the eyes. Being an artist myself, I appreciated the style. Not to mention the gun barrel sequence finally showed us who has been shooting at Bond (and getting shot by Bond) all this time. Of course after typing all that^, I then realised you didn't mean the opening credits sequence, but rather the sequence that happens in the movie before the opening credits. In that case I would probably say...actually, I think I'll still go with Casino Royale. It mightn't have been as big or as flashy as some of the other more extravagant opening scenes in the Bond films, but it did one hell of a job establishing Daniel Craig as the newest Bond. The fight in the bathroom looked quite brutal and as though it actually hurt. In the other Bond movies, he hardly seems to have a hair out of place after getting into fisticuffs. I thought the black & white was a nice way to begin the film (makes the first use of colour - the blood running down the screen after Bond shoots his opponent - even more effective), the dialogue was minimal/straight to the point (no long monologues or philosophical BS), and it was a short & sweet opening sequence. Anyway, the opening sequence and opening credits are only two of the many reasons why CR is my favourite Bond film. Sorry again for misreading the subject title of your post to start with.

"The abundance of octopi and writhing naked inky octopus ladies" Chalice_Of_Evil, that's the best sentence I've read in a while! 😀🐙

"The abundance of octopi and writhing naked inky octopus ladies" Chalice_Of_Evil , that's the best sentence I've read in a while! 😀🐙 Thanks. It's all I could think when watching the opening credits of Spectre for the first time on the big screen. Since my original pick wasn't the 'traditional' sort of opening sequence (ie. not a big action set piece really, but rather a smaller more 'intimate' fistfight), I'd say that my favourite 'action-y' Bond opening sequence would probably be The Living Daylights (1987). I would've said GoldenEye (1995)...except for the fact that Bond manages to catch up with a falling plane. That's not how gravity works.

Why do I love Moonraker even though the third act is just plain bad? Here’s one reason:
As for other intros:
Wow, that’s a lot of Moores. Here’s a Connery:
And a Lazenby:
Casino Royale’s opening’s good, but it doesn’t compare to the rest of the movie. Spectre’s is impressive and intermittently amusing, but I find the long take too long. One reason I like Moonraker’s and Goldfinger’s openings is that they’re basically Bond movies in miniature; they provide the essence of this series and character in about 5 mins. each.

What say you? First one that came to mind was “The Spy Who Loved Me”. Something just perfect about that massive cliff ski jump into a free fall until after a ton of suspense a Union Jack parachute opens up. Cue theme song. Classic stuff. I’ll also nominate “The Living Daylights”. Great debut for Dalton, parachuting into a training mission that turns deadly, great face reveal, and then a big chase in a truck full of explosives that are on fire which ends with him cleverly escaping via another parachute after he drives the truck over a cliff. Of course he lands on a yacht with a lone girl who has nothing to do but drink and screw the rest of the day, but who hasn’t stumbled into that situation.

There are several good ones. As mentioned before, Casino Royale, Spectre, and The Spy Who Loved Me had some good pre-titles sequences. I also loved the ones from GoldenEye, The World is Not Enough, and Skyfall.

What say you? I’ll have a hard time ever siding against “The Spy Who Loved Me” and the epic cliff jump to a parachute opening with the British Flag. Just perfect Bond. But I’ll toss in an underrated favorite of mine, “The Living Daylights” is perhaps the best debut opening for any Bond, song included. And yes I’ll say my personal favorite is “Casino Royale”. Outstanding origin for Bond, love the black and white, Daniel’s patient confidence. The suspense of the second kill, and the blending of the scene of his first kill which is revealed to be the inspiration for the gun barrel sequence. Absolutely love it.
