To get less deep: Anyone have any personal (apparently) ghost/paranormal experiences? Archie, you’re up first! I WAS a ghost one time! Well... Not exactly. It was junior high camp and long story short my cabin mates were getting on my nerves so I snuck away one evening to be alone- which was against the extremely strict prison camp-style rules. In my wanderings I stumbled on a night hike by another school and had to hide before they saw me. But they heard the leaves under my feet and everyone stopped and looked into the woods, 20-30 kids whispering: "What was that? It's a deer? Maybe a bear! No, it's a ghost! It's Bigfoot. ECT. ECT." Meanwhile I'm hiding behind a tree for ten minutes thinking "Get out of here, you little jerks!!!!!!!"

Me too. This is good stuff. And I can’t rightly say how thinking you’ll see them again would feel. I can say that I treat death as a celebration. Oh I definitely get upset and miss loved ones, and even people I didn’t know or members of other species. But in the end I more appreciate what their life was and smile at the good times. I’d just rather accept the reality of the situation I suppose. And that makes me wonder/ask, are religious people really less upset About the death of loved ones? It doesn’t seem like it. Do they value life less? IDK. It’s what precipitates from believing in afterlife’s that irks me though. Rules get set up for who qualifies and I’ve seen kids ostracized from their families over it. And those aren’t just extreme cases, that’s somewhat common. I know of pastors who stopped believing who are trapped by their community. And all but one member of Congress ever has admitted they’re an atheist. Come onnnnn, you really think all those people believe? I highly doubt it, but they have to say they do to get elected. To me its a bit of a suffocating practice. My grandfather confessed to me on what turned out to be his deathbed that he never believed it, yet he claimed to his whole life. I should have known because they never talked about it even though they’d take me to church on occasion. I could go on but I’m not a fan. So on those occasions as a child when you went to church did you believe or were you just forced to go? Did your grandfather confirm something you already knew or was that a revelation at the time? I actually envy people who were raised without religion. I think you form a more realistic and pragmatic view of reality. I have an aunt who raised my cousins without religion and the entire family has criticized them for it for years. Personally I view the practice of forcing beliefs on children to be downright irresponsible and cruel. If you believe in these things and then grew up to face the reality of life it can be a jarring and devastating experience. No I never believed it. I sat in church wondering why anybody took any of it seriously. Just never made any sense. I suppose it didn’t shock me that he never believed it, but just that he’d pretended to his entire life.

Nothing more to see here, we just proved the afterlife. How about them Mets? Seriously, love the story!

Interesting. This is definately a different experience than mine. I feel like I'm perpetually caught in the middle. I would never call myself religious but I can't quite say I'm an atheist either. Strangely, this was the exact position most people I met in college had. I'm a Fox Mulder and a Dana Scully. I WANT to believe... but I also can't.

Anyway, I hope my heretical conversation with Archie Stampton doesn't discourage others from posting their encounters with spook ghosts.... Grandmaster there are apparently some good haunted sites in your homeland. Ever been to Castle Waardenburg?

I either believe or I don’t. If I don’t, then Im an atheist by definition. That’s all it means. All I want to believe is what is true. You could come up with the most perfect idea of reality ever and I wouldn’t want to believe it unless it was true.

More on the paranormal than on religion (on which, well, I’m just not sure what my beliefs are anymore), but: I tend to be both Mulder and Scully too, but the contrarian impulse in my brain makes me play Mulder with the skeptics and Scully with the believers. So, what are we—Mullys? Sculders?

I remember when I was at school some students did a performance that featured a character named Sculder (though I'm not sure if the other character was named Mully, Molly or Milly). This was around the time The X-Files was what a lot of my fellow students were watching (not me, though. I didn't get into it until rather late in the game when I saw a few episodes a friend showed me, then I started watching it on TV in it's 'final' season - which was Season 9 at the time - and eventually decided to buy all 9 seasons on DVD, as they were on special).

@raimiackbar, AQUA SALZ!, AQUA JAR!™, ArArArchStanton,@shadowbiz, equality72521, taylorfirst1, Grandmaster, charzhino, This reminds me of the following joke: It is the first day of a class on the supernatural at the State University and the teacher starts off with the same question as he does every semester. He asks: "How many people here believe in ghosts?" About 90 students raise their hands. "Well that's a good start. Out of those of you who believe in ghosts, do any of you think you've ever seen a ghost?" About 40 students raise their hands. "That's really good. I'm really glad you take this seriously. Has anyone here ever talked to a ghost? 15 students raise their hands. "That's a great response. Has anyone here ever touched a ghost?" Three students raise their hands. "That's fantastic. But let me ask you one question further.....Have any of you ever made love to a ghost?" One student in the back raises his hand. The professor is astonished. He takes off his glasses, takes a step back, and says, "Son, all the years I've been giving this lecture, no one has ever claimed to have had sex with a ghost. You've got to come up here and tell us about your experience." The student replies with a nod and a grin, and begins to make his way up to the podium. The professor says, "Well, tell us what it's like to have sex with a ghost." The student replies, "Ghost? From back there I thought you said 'goats'!"

I think there are things yet to be explained. Although why do ghosts never appear in malls or whatnot? Are they allergic to some places or crowds? Yeah, you'd think there'd be one ghost bold enough to appear in a stadium and say "BOO! Ghosts are real, mofos!" LOL That is a good one and agreed. I really don't know if ghosts are real. I think it would be cool if they were but I don't think we have enough concrete and real evidence to suggest they are. What I do know is that there was this "reality" show I watched where a group investigates them. They spent a night in an abandoned spooky insane asylum where I am 100% sure the things they recorded and claim happened, like a camera knocked over on a tripod and strange noises, were all faked. Are you aware of those little girls who faked fairy photos and fooled the public? For now I think it is probably like that with ghosts.
