The tally of votes for the final/Round 18 so far: Casino Royale - 1 vote From Russia with Love - 2 votes So, any thoughts on what the next 'Survivor Game' could/should be? @raimiackbar made a suggestion in the MCU Survivor Game of a Pixar game after this one ends (I myself haven't really seen many Pixar films, so I'm afraid I'd be sitting that one out). An idea I had was maybe the X-Men films? I guess it all just really depends on which franchises most people have seen films from. I'm a bit afraid of how bloody/intense a Star Wars Survivor Game would get. Honestly, The Star Wars Survivor Game we ran on my forum was pretty chill and civil, aside from a few chiding remarks about the TV Ewaks movies lasting a little too long into it.

Well, it's really up to everyone here what they want. Whatever game is chosen next, I don't think I'd be 'hosting' again. Someone else can have that job.

OK, for the next game, let's do Star Wars. We gotta do Star Wars.
Heck, I'll take my turn and host that one.

Ahhhh geez. These are my two faves in the whole series. But since I am breaking the tie, I will spite vote Ackbar, who voted down Licence with the agenda of promoting Connery, by voting out my beloved Russia and giving Casino ultimate victory. ;-) I swear I’ve seen many tournaments of bond films and it’s quite frequently these two in the finals. Great films.

Ugh. That's easily one of the lamest Bond movies, ever.

I will freely admit that I am pleased with my favourite Bond film winning the game (especially after all my favourite MCU films got voted out before the end in the MCU Survivor Game), but I wouldn't have been too angry if From Russia With Love had won either (actually, I'd fully expected it to be the victor of the game back when I first tarted it). There a lot of other Bond films I would've hated to see win more than that one (*cough Skyfallcough*). Obviously, not everyone was going to be happy with which film won. I'll just say "Good game", and leave it at that. Now, let's see if the Star Wars Survivor Game can remain friendly and without any bloodshed.

Our collective top three are all tied for my personal number one.
Russia- The series' best spy movie
Casino- The series' best characterization of Bond
Goldfinger- The series' best when it comes to classic Bond tropes
Good game everyone! Let's all celebrate with a juicy Royale with Cheese! 🎈🍔🍟🎉

Even though it’s Connery’s birthday (happy 90, Sean!), I watched For Your Eyes Only tonight—largely because, as I noted in this thread, it’s the Bond I’ve probably seen the least. (It never seems to pop up in the TV marathons [so, watch, it’ll be on tomorrow].) Spoilers. It has some good things, including a pretty solid Moore performance: we get a few arched eyebrows and bad puns, but for the most part he plays Bond as Conneryesque this time around. It’s, er, realistic when compared to TSwLM and Moonraker (no diluvial schemes or spaceships here!). Some of the direction is surprisingly decent. There’s a well-set-up twist halfway through. The idea of a revenge-focused Bond girl is intriguing. A little moment in the beginning (the priest giving the sign of the cross) is beautifully ominous. The underwater temple looks good. Credit-sequence-singer Sheena Easton is oddly attractive. On the whole, though, I’d rather watch any of the previous Moores (which were goofy, yes, but fun), not to mention the Connerys. Mostly that’s because of the slow pacing, but the story is also weak: it feels small-scale, a gang war between rival smugglers. Despite an excursion to Italy, nearly the whole rest of the movie takes place in Greece—a far cry from the jet-setting in the earlier movies. The plot is minimal, an excuse for tedious action sequences (we get yet another ski scene, and this one keeps going…and going…and going, and just when you think it’s over, it’s…still going), yet somehow it’s still confusing. Somehow, the underwater scenes are even more interminable than Thunderball’s. The music sucks, no other word for it, and doesn’t fit the onscreen action at all. That said, the movie got me thinking about two things. First, twists in Bond are relatively rare, which unusual considering how many spy movie-series (Mission: Impossible, say) are twist-packed. Offhand I can’t think of any shocking shooking twists in the Connerys except for Goldfinger, which that good one about Goldfinger’s real plan (an improvement on, and mild ribbing of, the book’s impossible plan). Not that I really mind: my favorite Bond, FRwL, builds suspense by filling the audience in on SPECTRE’s plan from early on. LaLD has an atrocious one, Octopussy a minor one. The Brosnans and the Craigs have the most, though the Brosnan twists are all either obvious or ludicrous, or both. FYEO’s twist—Kristatos, not Columbo, is the villain—is really pretty clever, but neither writer nor director seemingly wanted to commit to it. Columbo (not Peter Falk in this case!) reveals the truth in the most offhanded way, and suddenly Kristatos doesn’t even try to keep his cover. Too bad; a fun Bond supporting character who ends up being the villain is a good idea. Second, FYEO is a spiritual-sequel to On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The similarities between the two films are so numerous that they can’t be coincidence: Bond visits Tracy’s grave in the opening, Blofeld (unnamed for legal reasons) shows up with neck brace seeking revenge, a ski scene, an ice-skating scene, a half-English, half-Mediterranean Bond girl, a contessa who gets killed, a beach scene, a roguish Italian smuggler who turns out to be an ally, etc., etc. Anyone know what inspired that at this stage in the game? It seems a strange choice, if a welcome one for me because finding the connections was amusing. All in all, not that great a movie. But that Sheena Easton, ooh la la!
