I hope this movie has a tie in to Iron Fist. Yeah that would be cool. But I guess it will not be Netflix Iron Fist.

I hope this movie has a tie in to Iron Fist. Yeah that would be cool. But I guess it will not be Netflix Iron Fist. I personally wouldn't mind if it was the Netflix version of the character. I know Feige is all done with that, though. I'm hoping more for a connection to Iron Fist mythology. It would be nice to hear references to the Immortal Weapons and the Capital Cities of Heaven.

This just looks yummy
It’s like Black Panther meets Crouching Tiger. That action and staging looked incredible and whatever they’re going to do with the lore of The Mandarin and the Ten Rings I’m sure is going to kill it.
They just can’t miss.

My one hope is that it just doesn’t contradict the Netflix version. Recast, do whatever with the story. Just as long as I can think, “yeah that guy did the Netflix stuff and now here he is”. That’s all I ask :-)

I rather have recasts and reboots. But thats how I feel.

I’m not seeing any real need to start over. My question would be, what does a reboot get us? I’m not sure it gets us anything.

Something cool I noticed in the trailer. As he’s getting into a fighting stance in the bus, they use the yellow elements within the tunnel to frame it as an almost DBZ like power up effect. It’s really cool once you notice it.

Neat. I wonder if there's any connection to Iron Fist or K'un-Lun.
Looks good!
(glancing up I see I'm not the first to wonder if there's a connection)

What I'm really surprised about is his seemingly total lack of super powers. It's really is just "the hands of Shang-Chi."

I think they will eventually contradict them, and It won't be out of spite or some false urgency to move on. I'd imagine that no one at Marvel Studios or Disney+ Marvel is making the time to watch the Netflix shows to preserve continuity. It just can't be a high priority for them. Also, it would give Feige and opportunity to make certain characters that were a little too grounded a bit more fantastic. Iron First would be the perfect candidate for that kind of make-over.

Youre almost certainly right that they will. I’m just not sure there’s much to contradict. For instance as you mentioned Iron Fist, they can update that character to be more fantastical and we have this built in idea that it’s been several years. I’m just not sure what updates they’d need to make that require a contradiction. I feel as though they could make nearly any updates they want. The shows IMO, left them with a fairly blank canvas.

Im watching this trailer on repeat. Its a masterpiece James. Complete. Comprenhensive. I have also watched this trailer several times. I'm not hunting for plot details or Easter eggs. I'm genuinely finding myself enamored of Destin Daniel Cretton's shooting style. It's vibrant and engaging. It's also absurdly comical to see a San Francisco "MUNI" repurposed as an improvised WMD to destroy more expensive forms of transportation. I fondly rode the MUNI during my younger days in California. The most impressive aspect of the trailer isn't really the trailer at all. It's Simu Liu's unbounded enthusiasm for the role when promoting the film. His personality is magnetic. If he can get that to come through on the big screen, Shang-Chi will easily be another win for Marvel.

Not to get off topic but I still don’t get “jokey marvel” people. Like, people like to be humorous. I’ve always thought it was very natural human conversation and situations. I have trouble even identifying more than a couple of things that even approached crossing the line.

Haters are going to hate. I don't get the complaint either, and I enjoy my fair share of darkly themed material. I don't see the humor as unnecessary or somehow offensive. If you're watching a Marvel trailer - over a decade in - and you're surprised or disappointed by a "sudden" injection of humor, I honestly don't know what to tell you.

Interesting. I'm desperate to know what this history of his family is with the rings, and of course the rings themselves. Love what they did with them conceptually.
