I downloaded Hell Let Loose yesterday and whew….this game is a WW2 shooter with a HUGE emphasis on strategy, coordination and realism. It’s a really cool experience. It’s kind of like Battlefield but in Hardcore difficulty. Patience is the name of the game here.
So you load in, and pick a squad with an opening or start one of your own if there’s room. Each squad has a leader who is in a radio channel with each other squad leaders as well as an overall commander. The commander sends orders and objective down to the squads and the squad leader tries to accomplish their task. It may be secure a crossroad for a tank squad to move up, it may be to bring supplies to a nearby farmhouse so that a squad leader can create a spawn point for the entire team that’s closer to the new objective. It’s really quite a unique gaming experience. I spent a few matches as part of a tank squad. Most tanks require 3 soldiers to operate to its fullest potential. One driver, one gunner, and one spotter. I was with some cool guys who showed me the ropes and I got to play as all three roles. Mowing down fields of running infantry only to get ambushed by an anti-tank squad or 2 shot by a Tiger hidden in the weeds was a lot of fun.
This game will not be for everyone. The run and gun of call of duty will only get you killed over and over. I’m having a blast with it tho.
