I've only watched it once. It was the black & white/'Noir' version on Blu-ray. I personally found it overlong and dull/boring. I kept waiting for it to end...but it just kept on going.
Whenever I see the film being lauded as one of the 'best comic book movies ever' or the 'best movie in the X-Men cinematic universe', I just don't get it/am unable to agree. The only thing I can praise about it is Hugh Jackman's performance. However, I thought he was excellent in the role of Logan from the get-go, so this wasn't anything 'new'.
Maybe others enjoyed the extra violence and cursing, but they did nothing for me. Those things don't make a movie more 'interesting' in my mind.
Maybe if I'm feeling down and I want to feel even more depressed I might rewatch it someday.

What me always bugged me. Logan is a limo driver but trucks are fully automated at that same time? Who would have use for drivers anymore? I mean its obvious the technique exists. Why would a limo rental spend money on drivers? That increases their costs and reduces their profits. Doesnt make sense at all.

Sure it does, it adds a personal touch, the customer is paying extra for that. A good example would be my dad, who refused to ever eat in a restaurant without servers that came to your table.

Its a good movie but does get over rated a lot. I see many professional critics and youtube reviewers say its by far the best Fox comic/Xmen movie and to me thats massively hopping on the bandwagon just because it got nominated at the Oscars. Still its a very solid finish to Wolverines character but I would rather watch The Wolverine again which is very under rated.

I love it! It’s a beautiful movie and I liked the downbeat tone which fit the themes and story they were going for. A great ending for this universe.

I feel almost exactly the same, it’s fine, but I absolutely don’t get the “it’s one of the best ever” stances. IMO this is almost pure rivalry hyping. Fox, Sony, and WB fans, constantly hoping for relevance in the genre, hype everything they possibly can through the roof. It’s how WW got so much hype, when come on, WW is pretty pedestrian folks, let’s be real. Logan is fine though. I do question Logan as being a good finisher though, because IMO it doesn’t pay anything off. It’s just kind of a random ending.

Like I said on Knowhere, I was still too overwhelmed by Wolverine burnout to really appreciate anything featuring the character until very, very recently. I've only this year, 2020, started to come around to being open to watching something with Logan in it again. So to me, Logan is just another Wolverine movie.

But I mean what is paid off? Xavier dies but it’s not like Caps or Tonys ending where it fits some long running plot thread. But maybe I’m missing something.

But maybe I’m missing something. Logan was more or less a sendoff because of his longevity. He's been living longer than he should have and now he can finally have peace. As for Xavier, he has become so old that his mind has been deteriorating, so it was time for him to go too. It isn't much for the character, but this is why I said mostly Logan's story is being paid off.

I guess what I’m saying is there is hardly a moment in there where I’m fist pumping and saying “YES THAT!!!” It just seems off to me to call it a great send off and an all time best in the genre film without having any really special moments. I can’t get there.

No, you’re not alone in your opinion. In fact, I’ll go as far as saying it sucked. I liked it well enough when I first saw it, but upon seeing it a few more times, it just seems muddled and undirected. Feels like a lackluster “what if” story.

The entire time I was asking myself why I was supposed to care. What did it have to do with anything that had happened to this character before and this why was it an ending? I mean it’s fine by itself but this was the ending of a franchise. And it’s a blank IMO.

Besides being an unsatisfying ending to a wildly uneven franchise, I didn't find the film to be as engaging as most. It doesn't bother me that most people think that Logan is near the pinnacle of the genre.

I think because it’s an expected answer, as if it’s so obviously great that you’re socially obligated to agree. Idk. Something about the reaction to it does annoy me I confess. That’s probably me being an asshole though

What ending would you have guys wanted instead? IDK, I don’t usually do the “my idea would have been perfect” thing, but I know I wish it had more relevance to other things from the past. I can tell you my first question was why Logan was so broken and old when prof x was still alive. Seemed odd. You could do almost the exact same film with a couple little tweaks. So first off, instead of Xavier, I would have gone with an elderly version of somebody he was close to in the past. Maybe Rogue or Kitty Pryde, IDK. The sense of time would have been stronger. I would have also planned maybe an “E is for Extinction” or “Zero Tolerance” based film and done it as a solo for that character he meets when they were younger. It would be the moment the world fell apart. That way Logan picks up on an existing plot thread and feels like it’s taking place much later. Second, I would have absolutely had Daken show up instead of his clone, and revealing that as Marikos son from the second film so we built on something there too. Idk, as it was it just felt like they didn’t advance any previous threads and they could have.

That’s probably me being an asshole though Honestly, I don't think about Logan much at all - either negatively or positively. I don't see a lot of discussion about the film on message boards I either frequent or moderate. Whenever the subject of Logan does come up, it's usually a very clipped and shallow dialogue. Most people who are fans of the film are content to note it as some "genre masterpiece" and move on. The lack of substantial conversation about any aspect of the film is a red flag for me. Even today, you still have people debate the nuances of Heath Ledger's performance in the Dark Knight. People discuss Nolan's prowess as a director and the trilogy's overall place within the genre. I think Logan represents the very best Fox had to offer in the series, and a lot of people conflate that status with the film's overall place in the genre. Logan is a reasonably well-crafted film from a technical standpoint. It has serviceable to great performances from the cast, and you can tell Jackman gave everything he had for his last outing as the "iconic" character. That being said, the film is a bizarre amalgam of ideas and concepts from the previous movies, source material, and the Director's own fancy. For what it's worth, I do applaud Mangold for making a genre film that attempted to skirt genre conventions in favor of character development. Whether he was successful or not is really up to each individual to decide.

Viper was fine I thought. A little underdeveloped but she still was fierce and had charisma. On Silver Samurai I've said it before but I dont know why the ending gets so much hate. If critics thought this was a goofy ending and too wacky go and watch a non-comic book movie instead.
And on ArArArchStanton point about there being no continuing plot thread in Logan and the movie being a bit random, I'm inclined to agree and it is why I find it a little unsatisfying. That's why I prefer The Wolverine because it is a direct follow up of X3 as Wolverine has self-exhiled and is still haunted by having to kill Jean, unable to let her go from his dreams throughout the movie. And then the ending were he's going back to America and the after credits scene when Xavier and Magneto show up gets you excited for the next movie because its a moving story.

Nice, and the only thing I'll add to the perception of the ending to The Wolverine, is that I think many people would have just preferred the villain be a legit bad ass samurai and do the exact same ending without the mech suit. But it's not a fundamental change, so I'm with you.

Logan probs blames himself as it would seem Xavier had an accident that killed the team. They are both old and not in great shape, physically or emotionally
