Do we love it or do we hate it?
I haven't seen it since it was released, but I did like it. I still think it's a better portrayal of Hulk than TIH 2009. I've been meaning to revisit it for a while now.
What say you?

I don't love it and I don't hate it. It's good but no where near as good as anything in the MCU.

I liked Hulk 2003. I think the sum of its parts is greater than the film as a whole. Hulk has a lot of pathos and bigger ideas, which TIH sorely lacks. Hulk 2003 is likely going to be your preferred film if you care about the Hulk as a character. If you're more into the character as a vehicle for violence and action, TIH is the better pick.
I'm not embarrassed to say that I classify people into certain categories based on which of the two films they prefer.

5/10. There’s things I genuinely like. I think the cgi is not that bad and I prefer the smooth design over the MCU look. Sam Elliott was phenomenal casting as Thunderbolt Ross and Nick Nolte is fun as the villain. (Accidentally hit post). But Eric Bana is too restrained as Bruce Banner and Jennifer Connelly looks bored half the time. The running time doesn’t help matters. The mutant dog fight is ridiculous but not the enjoyable kind. But the helicopter chase and the weird operatic climax is neat. I respect Ang Lee for trying to exceed people’s expectations for a Hulk movie, but he forgot to make it fun.

I recall really respecting its ambition and focus on Banner/Hulk as a character first, instead of just going the mindless action route. I can't remember what it was I didn't like about it though. Time for a rewatch to refresh my memory. I'm tired of forcing myself to try and like TIH. If I'm being honest, I think it's a pretty terrible movie. Sometimes it wants to be a Jason Bourne movie with Banner the parkour expert evading trained commandos and other times it wants to be a mindless action driven cartoon. Neither approach works for me.

As I get older, my opinion of TiH gets lower. Every time I watch it, I seem to enjoy it a little less. I don't think it's a terrible film, but it has a certain superficial quality to it that bugs me. It was obviously engineered as a direct response to Hulk's more cerebral, character driven-plot. Despite Norton's protestations surrounding trying to make a smarter, more grounded film that took inspiration from the TV show, all I see is a very shallow movie. Where TiH succeeds is with its minimal world-building (which I am a complete sucker for). I also enjoyed Tim Roth's villain. He felt like a composite of people I've encountered in the past. He behaved like a person with sadistic tendencies who likely joined the military to avoid acting out those tendencies in an inappropriate setting. For people who hate the MCU's alleged over-reliance on broad comedy, I sincerely believe that we owe some of that to TiH.

The problem is that he really has no connection to Banner, personal or otherwise, and has zero impact on the plot until act three. In other words he's not even really a true antagonist until the end. I'm curious what your thoughts are on the MCU Hulk post-TIH? What do you think about Ruffalo's Hulk in Thr Avengers and beyond?

I do think there’s a good movie in there somewhere, but I just can’t watch it because it’s so damn boring. I much prefer TIH over this.

I like but don't love both "Hulk 2003" and "The Incredible Hulk". Both are solid Hulk movies in their own right, but they just never reach the level of greatness they should have. Something was missing from both that just keeps them at "enjoyable, well-made, but only good".

This is that great exception.

This is that great exception. That's fair. I know my opinion of Hulk 2003 is an unpopular one. More people enjoy and will adamantly defend TiH as the better film. It's interesting to note how the two movies have vastly different interpretations of the same character. I have always seen the Hulk as a tragic figure whose status as a superhero is only incidental to his overall mythos. TiH is a "fun romp," but it has little in common with the character thematically.

I did not like it at the time. Maybe I'd have a different opinion if I rewatched it. But I have no plans to do so at this point in time.

I liked it. More than I thought I would. As a character, Hulk is one of my favorite metaphors for becoming someone else when you're angry. I thought it was oddly sweet. Like when Hulk fought off those dog things. There's a minute where he gets lost in Jennifer Connolly's eyes (who can blame him) and it's like he appreciates her a whole new way. Not to be confused with love because you can love something and not appreciate it. Bruce loves her and he doesn't appreciate her. Hulk looks right at her and sees only her.
I like the desert setting. Nick Nolte cracks me up too, he's great.
I thought it was interesting.
