They are actually doing pretty well internationally re death numbers over cases percentage. They are better than Germany, Spain, UK and France etc Deaths dont matter. Everybody dies of something. Dont get me wrong its terrivle for the victims and their loved ones but the only thing that matters is that the hospitals can give care to those who need it. And from what I understand that isnt the case because there are so many people carying the disease. Maybe at a certain point. You also need to take into account that America is a large country ie population. More people, more hospitals and such. Not everyone that contracts covid-19 goes through the same serious process. Not everyone needs a hospital either. There have also been issues with accuracy of case numbers. Some hospitals have incentive to report more cases than it actually has to get more supplies and funding. Deaths do matter, it shows how countries are performing in terms of saving lives. Obviously not over yet but it's getting there. The goal was to flatten the curve. See how much white there is, even California will be over it soon and thats the most populous state in America Meanwhile, other countries are undergoing second waves and surges in covid cases

See how much white there is, even California will be over it soon and thats the most populous state in America Meanwhile, other countries are undergoing second waves and surges in covid cases You think America is doing a good job? The US hasn't even tested 20% of the population yet and 8% of those that have been tested have been infected and there's still a 3% mortality rate among the infected. Are there people out there who won't get as sick as others? Yes... and that's the problem if they don't follow the guidelines: they will unknowingly infect others who might not be as lucky. 5 months and 1 week ago, Donnie Dimwit said that 15 cases would quickly become zero. The next day, the first American died from Covid. Since then over 160,000 more people have died. You think that an average of 1,000+ dead people a day is a "flattening the curve" success story? Here's a number for you: 115,000 That's the number of US military combat and non-combat deaths for all wars and other military actions that the US has been involved in since the end of WWII. 5 months of Covid has killed 3 times more Americans than over a decade of war in Vietnam. www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/Have a little education. OK Go compare the US to SK or NZ When you were in school, if you brought home a test with a "D" on it, did explaining to your parents that "3 other kids got "F's"" keep you out of trouble? Did they think you were doing OK in school based on that comparison?
OJ Simpson couldn't fill Jeffrey Dahmer's vegetable bin. Does that make him a better person?
Hitler was one helluva nice guy compared to Mao or Stalin, right?

No deaths are good. On the whole America is still low. Extreme analogies are really quite odd too. Why dont you criticise the UK, Spain, France or Germany?

I'm not British, French, Spanish, or German nor do I live in those countries, but if I were to criticize them, it would be on the same grounds: they didn't take it seriously enough from the start; they were poorly prepared; they took action too late; they re-opened too soon; and they didn't crack down hard enough on those who flouted the WHO guidelines.
At the core of it all is some silly notion that "freedom" means freedom from responsibility to your fellow citizens.
Check the sig and learn to love it.

The WHO has its own problems too. Problem is that the Western world has not experienced something like this before, not in this way anyway. It's not an easy problem to deal with. You have to weigh up both the economy and lives

You have to weigh up both the economy and lives The economy IS lives. Dead people are not consumers. They don't buy cars, clothes, houses, computers, or anything else.
Want to know another thing? Putting people first rather than the economy gave popularity boosts to the politicians in those countries.
The president of SK saw a 7-10% boost in the polls after responding quickly and implementing guidelines that has kept SK with a low number of cases, lower deaths, and a minimal hit to their economy if any.
As for not experiencing anything like this before, I guess that's why the previous administration put safeguards in place after dealing with an epidemic that had a death toll that was only one TENTH of the death toll from Covid so far. The US government has long had powers to deal with any number of threats. The current administration, in its rush to dismantle anything and everything from the previous administration destroyed our ability to respond and spent too much time downplaying the threat (same as China) instead of acting.
As for China, the people that live here knew about it back in December when it was the "Mysterious Wuhan Pneumonia." If we knew, then I'm guessing that our network of spies MUST have reported something back to the US. Maybe if Trump was reading his reports instead of watching Fox News and tweeting, he could have saved a few more lives. You can't talk about "distrusting China" but then say, "We had no reason to not believe them."
And if you want to blame China for starting the pandemic, go ahead, but you can't blame them for how other nations responded.
The minute China went into lock down, you had to realize it was already too late: Those damn airplane thingies, right? That was the moment (if not sooner) to declare a state of emergency, implement strict rules at the federal level (don't let the states make up their own rules), and tighten controls at ever border crossing, port, and airport. Testing (that works) should have been made widely available as quickly as possible no matter the cost and no matter if it was made by one of your buddies' companies.
Hell, Donnie had the perfect opportunity to be 'Der Drumpfuhrer" that he always wanted to be and let it slide because he's a coward and an imbecile.
People would have hated it... until they realized that Americans weren't dying as fast as the Italians, Brit, Spanish, etc. Trump could have basked in the glow that comes with saving a nation and coasted to a win in November, but again, he's a coward and an imbecile.

Obviously lockdowns only work so much. There will always be people disobeying rules even if it is in their own best interests. How do you think an economy functions? There needs to be consumers. Taxes are collected from the economy to pay for police, hospitals, gov handouts etc. Businesses have collapsed resulting in unemployment. No it's not an easy problem. Covid-19 and its effects are also very contentious. You know what the median age for someone who dies of covid-19 is, it's ridiculously high. 70 something. Other countries have had second waves when they thought they were in the clear Trump is not a dictator like Xi is. It doesnt work like that, where he can just tell states what to do. A lot of the states are run by democrats too. Look at what is happening in some of their areas. All the protests and rioting, some resulting in looting, arson, assault and vandalism. Defunding/abolishing the police. Not simple at all Yes China should be blamed for the virus. Look at where it's all coming from. Sars, bird flu and swine flu. China shouldve warned the world immediately but did that happen? Im guessing not. As always China tries to save face and project fake power and dominance. Why do these outbreaks keep occurring in China? Seems like Xi is an imbecile in actuality. Trump early on imposed travel bans. Fauci himself has contradicted himself and there's even hard evidence where Fauci admitted that the president saved lives re the travel bans

You have all the wrong facts (probably Breitbart and Fox) and you completely ignored everything I said.
Learn how to read and we'll talk again, but at this point, it's really not worth my time to repeat myself to someone who isn't listening. Wash your hands and wear your mask... like you should have been doing since January and see if you can convince others to do the same. Then everyone can work and fewer can die.
Cool?
Ciao!

I went shopping last night, for the first time since March.
It was 830pm, so the store was pretty empty.
Hard to navigate the seemingly pointless rerouting to get up to the registers!
