Agreed! I should see it again, but I remember really enjoying it in 2010 ( ten years ago?—wait, what?!). It handled the fallout from the “I-am-Iron-Man revelation” quite well, possibly because Favreau returned as director and knew what he wanted out of the story. Rourke, as far as I can remember, was solid as the baddy and had great presence with all those whips—too bad they didn’t give him more to do. Fun movie. I can't think about these movies as being ten years old. It's too depressing! Why does time move so much quicker in your twenties and thirties? I remember how long a year felt when I was a kid. I want those long years back!!!!!!@!!!! Im well into my 40's.... It only goes faster. Except for this year. This year feels like a decade on its own.

You're very welcome to join in too! The two of them have polar opposite views on this one though. And watching them argue over it is fun. 😎

I'm actually kind of looking forward to watching Thor TDW tonight. Does that make me a bad person? I feel so dirty.

I'm actually kind of looking forward to watching Thor TDW tonight. Does that make me a bad person? I feel so dirty. A lot of people I've spoken to have softened a lot on the film since it's release. You'd be far from the first to gain a more favorable opinion of it, if that happens.

One of these was going to fall into a consensus “least good” category no matter how good everything was, and those who love to stir up shit pushed “least good” = “bad” to the point you weren’t allowed to call it what it is, GOOD. This mob rule calling it bad BS is a bunch of BS. WB, Sony, and the former Fox would kill to make films that good.

This man has taken a stance, and that stance is "Even the worst MCU film is better than anything the competition has put out". I don't disagree with that sentiment, mostly.

How’d I miss this? Completely agreed on everything—can’t think of anything offhand that doesn’t work in the movie. Still my #1 MCU. I appreciate your contributions to the thread, my friend! I wish others would post here too, but oh well. Feel free to disagree as well! I fully encourage disagreement. I know you don't like Thor or The Avengers. You are welcome to post your thoughts on those too! Soitenly!—though I prefer to chime in on the ones I like rather than the ones I don’t like ( Far From Home excepted… That movie really irritated me. ).

On TDW, by the way: I’ll say I preferred it to the first Thor by a considerable margin.

A lot of these 1st vs 2nd film comparisons really intrigue me because so many offer a cooly different experience. The best part is I don’t think there are wrong answers. I love the fun cosmic play of TDW but Thor 1 is this father son epic. But Guardians, Iron Man, Spidey, Cap, all have these shifts from 1 to 2 that are interesting to consider.

Thor The Dark Thor Whoa doggy. Here we go... To say that this movie is underrated, to me, would be an overstatement. The script isn't great. There's no way around that. What I would say is that it's a guilty pleasure. Loki Lokington steals the show and the movie is worth watching just for his scenes. Freeda's death is somewhat poignant. Odin is still great. The climax during the convergence is quite fun. And the much maligned Darcy really isn't that bad at all. Basically, there are worse MCU movies. But... Thor is duller than shit here with almost no character development. The Dark Elves are paper thin and their motives aren't even explained. Why do they hate the light?! I don't know. Who the hell knows. Who the hell cares. Not the screenwriters, that's for sure! It's a tragic disservice to the source material. Overall, compared to Phase One, which is always a joy for me, this and Iron Man 3 remind me of the massive Phase Two disappointment, Yes, I have softened on it considerably. A guilty pleasure, yes. But a great movie this is still not. AQUA KEN!@arararchiestimpford

So ArArArchStanton I know you love every MCU movie, but if you had to rank them in terms of quality would Thor TDW not be last? If not what would? Keep in mind that "last" doesn't necessarily mean bad. For me TIH would be last for sure. In fact, I'm not even watching it for this marathon. Of the ones I am watching I think Far From Home will probably remain in last place.

There’s a good 12+ that I think have a case to make as the best, and I never even think of which one is least good or that I like least I just think they all are what they’re supposed to be. I know that sounds evasive. I’ve been thinking about doing a ranking but it I’d need some help to do it right I think.

That's why I usually go for "Tiers" I put a bunch of films in instead of trying to make a list, individual film by individual film.

Iron Mang 3 It's true that even the "bad" MCU movies are not really bad (except for TIH ) but Iron Man 3 is certainly one of the weaker ones as far as I'm concerned. Its another guilty pleasure like Thor 2, but it's hard to forget the disappointment I felt watching this in the theaters. And I don't even care about the Mandarin. I just miss the suaveness of the Faverau movies. He understood this character and created a tone and style that fit him perfectly. I still wish he hadn't left. Shane Black just doesn't fill those shoes. I mean, who watches Iron Man and thinks "you know what this series needs? A seven year old side kick!" Come on, Disney. Get real. The Mark 47 is my favorite suit though. Cool gimmick. Love that lighter shade of gold!

Ok I’d want to do as close to a single blind test as I can get. So I’d need somebody to give me random one on one matchups daily until every film has been compared to every other film. So you’ll need a chart ;-) yes I’m that crazy lol

The Mark 47 is my favorite suit though. Cool gimmick. Love that lighter shade of gold! For a long time IM3 was my choice for the most underrated MCU entry, if such an animal can be said to exist. I like Thor 2 more than Thor 1 a fair amount, but that’s largely because the Frigg funeral scene stuck in my head, and nothing in Thor 1 did. (OK: the robot did, but largely because I thought it looked unintentionally silly.) Anyway, what I liked about IM3 was the script, which I thought made for the most amusingly subversive superhero flick since, well, Iron Man. We see a kid, we expect he’s going to be Stark’s sidekick, we groan—and then Stark says he doesn’t need a sidekick and just leaves, and the kid ends up not being his sidekick. Then the Mandarin twist, which pleasantly surprised me—I didn’t see it coming at all, and Kingsley was of course great at selling both characters. So, I really enjoyed it when I saw it in theaters, and I’d be praising it—but (you probably knew that was coming) I caught about a half-hour of it about a year ago on TV and was bored. It just seemed slack, and after the Mandarin twist the real villain was kinda boring. I still liked the subversive stuff, but from a filmmaking perspective it just seemed blah (a very fancy film critic word, yes). Meanwhile, when I rewatched IM 1 on TV, it seemed as fun, freewheeling, and clever as it did when I first saw it. A half-hour of a movie is not enough to base a reevaluation on—but after having liked this one in theaters, I think now I’m more inclined to agree with your comments.

Thor TDW is the best Thor movie by a million miles. It would make my top 6 MCU movies. Just let down by the goofy antics of Professor Selvig who for some reason becomes a clown when in The Avengers and Thor 1 he was a respected scientist. And Darcy to an extent. Everything that happens on Asgard is gold and exactly how I pictured a Thor movie would be. The score is one of the most memorable and the after credits scene is legendary. Malketh is pretty generic however but still retains an aura of mystery which I think gets overlooked. Too bad they had to follow this up with the awful Thor Ragnarok and dumb the character and mythos down.

My take on the Selvig but is that he enhances how other characters like Hawkeye dealt with being controlled. Hawkeye as a mentally trained badass was able to get over it while a smarter man who isn’t as battle focused goes a little crazy. It’s why Hawkeye became Ronin. He defaults to a mission whereas Selvig is overwhelmed.

The film is completely filler and it's sole purpose was to introduce the Infinity stones. Most of the cast obviously didn't give a shit, especially Natalie Portman who reportedly wanted out when Patty Jenkins was fired, with the exception of Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth. The supporting cast is not only completely unfunny but honestly annoying every time they're on screen, especially Darcy who is easily the MCU equivalent of Jar Jar Binks. Don't even get me started with the villain, who was generic as fuck. Honestly I can't believe how much of a fuck up this film is.

I still cant over the hate TIH gets here.... Lucky for you guys I hate cancel culture.... I hope I didn't give anyone the impression that I HATE TiH. It's a perfectly adequate super-hero action movie. That may sound like faint praise but, I'd easily watch TiH over most DCEU films (with the notable exception of Man of Steel). Thor: The Dark World is now officially in my top ten favorite MCU films. It just gets better with each rewatch. I loved the action, overall performances, the villain, and world-building. It's a cornerstone film of the MCU.
