Yeah I wasn't too crazy about episode 10. Don't hate it but it's definitely the weakest so far.

Straight up, it was a filler episode. Although I enjoyed it for what it was. Literally an in-between episode as he's trying to get to another Mando. Is this worth reviewing?

One "bad" episode of the Mandalorian is worth the last four consecutive theatrical Star Wars releases combined. It's a 90s era cartoon turned into a live-action, big-budget TV show. It's what we all wished for as children, and it's glorious. I can't, for the life of me, understand why people believe this opening round of Star Wars content on Disney+ is somehow lacking. As pure spectacle, the show is genius. Why it has to be Kubrickian-level genius escapes the fuck out of me. People say, and Im quoting @raimiackbar here, its not Star Warsy enough. It looks and feels like peak Star Wars to me. Yes there are no light sabers and stuff but that was never Star Wars to me. Its about light vs dark. Both on the greater scale of things as well as within the characters. And thats absolutely there. And its packaged within a great western/action/road movie vibe. The last episode wasnt horroble but to me one of the weaker ones. However it was amazingly funny and that made up a lot. I believe the lesson here is that fans are fickle and cannot be pleased for very long. A Boba episode was pandering, but an episode without as many known quantities is meaningless. I think the animal aspect of the threat made it feel small. If the spiders hadn't been there, they could have been replaced by an ice cave collapse, or the ship losing power and drifting in space, or any of a million different threats to life that didn't involve anything from the larger, "show me Star Wars" imagination of the insatiable fandom. The spiders do seem to be a reference to a creature originally planned for Dagobah, the white knobby spiders, but clearly they made their own variation on them. I think this episode is a reminder that the galaxy is full of dangers, and even a total badass can die an unceremonious death in the middle of nowhere. It may not be the most story progressive, but that reality may need to be felt for greater understanding of something further in.

Watched it today actually. This episode was pure horror. I hate spiders and my skin was crawling as they backed themselves further and further into a corner. Watching those eggs come alive. Ewwwwwww.
Legitimately felt compassion for frog lady and her eggs. Baby Yoda was cute eating them but I felt simultaneously sorry for her. That kid will never be. So sad lol. Actually thought it was clever to show her with the brilliance to use the droid to communicate. Good stuff.
The opening was strong too where some assholes try to Rob Mando. Good effort, but an Olympic level landing and some wit turn a guy into a water balloon and Mando makes it back to Amos Isley.
But this is an Isolation story. Doesn’t build much on the main plot but that’s actually why I love this series. It reminded me immediately of the original Alien and it turned into a nightmare fast. When I’m watching these I try to imagine being in their shoes and DAMN this was sick.

I loved the second episode despite it being derivative and ultimately leading nowhere.
I think the Mandalorian has its detractors on edge because it refuses to conform to the popular notion that you have to present a story that is always leading to some big event.
The Mandalorian's meandering style makes it somewhat unpredictable and thus more challenging for thirsty theory crafters to make bullshit predictions and formulate lazy, fantasy narratives. Please spare me your failed writing careers, YouTube.
The lower stakes narrative and lack of typical Star Wars melodrama are right up my alley. Life isn't a straight-line or a build-up to one all-encompassing moment. It's a series of failed plans, missed opportunities, diversions, compromises, and subsequent triumphs.
If you can't get into the storytelling, you must at least tip your hat to the production design and visual effects for the love of God. Have they had a misstep in CGI or puppetry in 12 or 13 hours' worth of content? You don't get that from most Hollywood blockbusters, let alone a TV show. If this is the quality level they're bringing to Star Wars, I absolutely cannot wait for the Marvel shows.
It's funny how many people are frustrated by the Mandolorian, but their final analysis is always, "I'll see you next week, Mando!"

The latest episode is gold. It had a giant, card-playing ant who is a doctor --- with glowing eyes. It's pure imagination unleashed.

Jahns had an interesting pov of baby yoda lol. I guess im Baba Yaga too dude is lookin homeless these days lol And yeah I thought the yoda egg eating had a decidedly destining quality about it. They set up the eggs as precious and he’s just eating the last of her lineage.

They set up the eggs as precious and he’s just eating the last of her lineage. I was debating the tragedy value. Maybe he was divining the dark ones and consuming only those that would bring negative things to the galaxy, or limiting those that would impact some other chain of events. Or maybe they just had a super tasty irresistible quality and he had no clue about the seriousness. For that matter, they weren't fertilized yet, so they may never have come to exist regardless of his eating them or other events. He's sucking them down, maybe he's storing them for when the tank is invariably destroyed due to a vision. This is all grasping, but there are several ways of that turning out in a slightly twisted way from the general assumption.

I had a thought after this video. In the first episode Mando leaves Gor Koresh behind hanging at the lantern. Basically leave him there to die. The X Wing fighters do the same to Mando now. I wonder if that theme will come back. Like Mando saving some (semi) bad guy despite having no further need for that person.
Its a bit like Mando not trusting or even hating droids but after the sacrifise of IG-11 and the care he got from it he has changed his point of view.

He has been drifting away from his traditional bounty hunter role towards the scoundrel side. Ahsoka has a similar drift from Jedi. Star Wars has focused on the gradient good/evil concept, and has seemed to be leaning towards the grey is better than the light or the dark. Such growth would be a character progression, which could bite him. Ahsoka would possibly encourage such behavior, or be drawn to it. At this point in the timeline, she has been Fulcrum and has even worked with hardened imperials that converted. "Evil will always triumph because good is dumb." - Dark Helmet

It’s more that it feels like Star Wars on basic cable. It’s like Xena the Warrior Princess, but with Boba Fett. And it’s just sad to me to see the grandest movie franchise of all time reduced to that honestly. I do see the appeal of it though. I enjoyed parts of it. And I agree with Lord Death Man that it is better than all other Disney SW movies. I find it perplexing that this idea wasn’t used for a film franchise over Solo or Rogue One. With better writers and a bigger budget this could’ve been a pretty solid movie franchise.

If anything I’d consider it necessary and given the quality so far a strong expansion. Look at the effects on the dragon and spiders. That stuff is incredible. I’d be happy with all kinds of series like this.

I think hardcore Star Wars fans sometimes respond negatively to the Mandolorian because it lacks the main franchise's urgency and melodrama. There is no confrontation building in The Mandalorian. No uber-villain is lurking in the shadows and pulling strings. No one is going to turn out to be anyone else's brother, sister, or father. The show seems content to be the Kung-Fu of the Star Wars universe. Mando is comfortable wandering the galaxy getting into adventures.

In Mando it was two tiny sets and a lot of bad green screen. I found that episode so depressing.

I don’t mind the smaller focus at all. Aside from the production values I honestly just find the writing to be really mediocre and bland. That prison break episode in season one was painful to watch.
