I think we'll have to count me out due to the scheduling conflict I mentioned a while back, if anything changes… I'll let you all know. Have a good show. That's unfortunate Im really sorry for not having enough prep time. My apologies my friend.

It was a tremendous bummer to have to miss the third season review, but rest assured that Death Man will ride with the Champions once more. Can't wait to revisit and review more Trek!

Another excellent episode! I really enjoyed this season 3 but I get that a lot of people don’t. I especially love the episode All our yesterdays so I was glad that grandmaster picked that one. It was probably my favorite of the season. Also glad that Merv picked the paradise syndrome. I’ve always loved that one too. As Taylor pointed out and I think I even mentioned here in my last post that I grew up not knowing which episodes came from what season and I always just enjoyed it all for the most part. The children shall lead was always the stinker of the series for me but even that grew on me.
But all in all another great podcast. I will plug this episode in various places and I’m sure this will spark more discussions among other trek fans. 🍺

I appreciate the sentiment, my friend. It was a tremendous bummer to have to miss the third season review, but rest assured that Death Man will ride with the Champions once more. Can't wait to revisit and review more Trek! Looking forward to seeing you on the next one lorddeathman! Sorry it did not workout this time. Since we did not get to hear you on this one, may I ask what 3 episodes you would’ve picked and also if you enjoyed this season overall? The popular wisdom amongst fans is that Star Trek Season 3 is the worst of the series. While I'll admit that some of the episodes from that season couldn't stand shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the best of the prior seasons, I generally don't agree that it's a bad season. It is obvious (and painfully so, in some cases) that Roddenberry had either much less or absolutely nothing to do with the stories from Season 3; however, a lot of the episodes, even the ones that feature objectively bad performances, have something to offer. Gene left the show in good shape as far as an overall framework that likely curbed the worst of the hackneyed 1950s sci-fi story influences. Suppose you take an episode like That Which Survives, which features a stilted Lee Meriwether as Losira (who constantly demands to touch men - lol). Even in that case, the episode still has something to offer: a suspenseful B story led by Scotty and some commentary on the potential for AI to experience human emotions like guilt and regret. In no particular order, the three episodes stand out as the best of Star Trek: Season 3 to me. Is There in Truth No Beauty?
This episode challenges conventional notions of beauty and perception through Miranda Jones's character and her relationship with the Medusan ambassador, Kollos. I loved Diana Muldaur's performances as Dr. Jones. When I first saw the episode, the concept of her sensor web accommodation was mind-blowing. The twist at the end is also incredible. Spock's mind meld with Kollos offers intriguing insights into Vulcan abilities and the concept of sharing consciousness. It raises philosophical questions about identity, the merging of minds, and the experience of entirely alien perspectives. The Tholian Web
This episode brings Spock and McCoy's leadership dynamics to the forefront, exploring themes of command, loyalty, and decision-making under pressure. Their differing approaches to leadership and problem-solving left an impression on me as a young person. It showed me that there are different styles of leadership. This episode introduces the Tholians, a uniquely non-humanoid species known for their punctuality and the mysterious Tholian Web. I've been a fan of the Tholians ever since. This episode is also notable for me because when I first watched it, I thought Captain Kirk was going to die or be lost permanently. The Lights of Zetar
Most fans criminally underrate this episode. The episode deals with an attack on Memory Alpha, a repository of all Federation knowledge. It raises questions about the importance of collective memory and history in defining a civilization. I loved the idea of a planet-sized library. Scotty's relationship with Lt. Mira Romaine and his willingness to go to great lengths to save her from the Zetar entities had a real urgency to me. The episode examines how personal feelings intersect with duty and the greater good. I also found the Zetar, as beings of pure energy seeking corporeal forms to survive, a crazy concept. It challenged my understanding of life, death, and the desire for immortality. There's something very delicate and vulnerable about Jan Shutan's performance. I had a bit of a crush on her. She was one of the first supporting characters I followed from the TV show into the subsequent non-canon novels. She ends up taking an assignment to rebuild Memory Alpha in a more secure facility.

I totally agree that everything has something to offer. As was pointed out, some dislike the Spock's brain episode. I enjoyed that one though. lol. I like tholian web the best out of the 3 you mentioned. It has been many years since I have watched these episodes so I am definitely due for a rewatch. But this time will be with the added CGI so I am looking forward to that too. Is there truth in no beauty is another one I was glad was discussed on the podcast. I love Dina Muldaur! I also like Jan Shutan!!! Boy Scotty sure was into her and would've taken a hundred bullets for her. Looking forward to seeing you (or hearing you in this case) on the next podcast!

I like the Tholian Web episode the best of the 3 mentioned above as well. "Renowned Tholian Punctuality" always tickles me as a phrase. I liked Spock's Brain too. The dislike of that episode would have been lost on me if not for the internet. I'm not sure what's supposed to be disagreeable or egregious about it. Is There No Truth in Beauty is a good episode too, and I like Diana Muldaur. I didn't like her character as much when she reappeared in TNG in season 2. I was confused by how someone as intelligent as her character could hold such a prejudice against Data. It was too arrogant and coldly self-assured for me to enjoy, but I adored her in her TOS appearances.
I especially liked The Enterprise Incident because I thought it was an intriguing look into a Starfleet special ops. It's interesting watching Spock go along with the con as it is watching him seduce and manipulate, in his own way, the Romulan commander. Season 3 on average has the largest number of episodes I consider my top episodes.

Loved this episode! Great to see the passion and appreciation for this animated series. I first discovered this series in the early 80's on nickelodeon. I think it was on after mr. wizard's world and I would watch this right before wrestling came on. That was great to see some love for Arex! I have not watched this series in a long time so I don't remember names of episodes and all that. I enjoyed the series as a whole. Also loved the Tribbles episode. That was really funny. I was very interested in the conversation at the end about that article. Lord death man bought up some brilliant points as well as Taylorfirst. I wish I posted this right after I watched it so the comments would be fresh in my mind. I have mixed feelings on Discovery. There are things I really like about it, and things that really annoy me about it and the writing. Taylor brought up something that I really hate. when they act like modern day immature college kids and use slang from 2023. I could write a really long post about all of the things that annoy me about the series, but I will leave that for another post. I did really enjoy the Picard series and I know a lot of people didn't. I have just started Strange new worlds and I really enjoy that so far. I am only a few episodes in though.

Given the huge popularity of Star Trek in syndicated reruns, it was inevitable that an animated series would be made. In the golden age of Saturday morning TV there was a trend (that continues today to some degree) where anything that reached some level of popularity was made into an animated series. Here is just a partial list of live action stuff that was made into Saturday morning cartoons just from the 60's-80's.
Abbott & Costello Laurel & Hardy The Beatles The Jackson 5 The Osmond Brothers The Brady Bunch The Partridge Family The Addams Family Gilligan's Island My Favorite Martian Emergency Happy Days Lavergne & Shirley Mork and Mindy Godzilla Muhammad Ali Mr. T Beetlejuice Teen Wolf The Karate Kid
And many more.
