I’m rewatching the Netherlands match right now. You know my favorite player for them 😉 Ake? BAM!!!! I knew you knew it lol For anybody reading along that was a challenging but fair test that takes some relatively detailed world football awareness across multiple leagues and your grandmaster knew how to find the right answer.

Ajax??? But I feel like the right answer is Feyenoord He left the Feyenoord Academy at age 16 for Chelsea. BAM. I could tell you were going there lol. I forgot he was with Chelsea though. I wanted to get your thoughts on Qatar as a host and as a team. My take is both are far less than ideal. I almost feel bad for them that they’ve dedicated themselves to this so much, but so much about accommodations isn’t great and especially with their team having really no chance.

Even though I do not like or support the laws of Qatar in any way I do believe we need to respect those laws when visiting. 2. Yes they got the World Cup by bribing the FIFA committee but it was that committee that let them be bribed and give the WC to Qatar. I do not blame the people of Qatar and I hope they enjoy their WC party. 3. Qatar doesnt have a team fit for WC football but so so several others. 32 countries is the max but they need to be divided better. However 2026 in US/Canada/Mexico is gonna see 48 trams at the WC which will reduce the overall quality even more. Not happy about that. 4. The accomodations are great but come at a great cost. The 6500 immigrant workers that lost their lives is to high a cost to host the WC. FIFA should, and they never will, let the tournament only be hosted by countries that already have the infrastructure in place.

I agree you should have most infrastructure in already in place to host it. A few renovations, a few new projects, fine. But having to build everything is ridiculous. I’m sure they have some or even mostly nice lodging but I did here at least some of the hotels were basically just barely out together. Maybe I’ve been misinformed though. I have noticed a lot of empty seats as well. Which is really weird. Also, 48??? Really? I was not aware of that. I’m always iffy about expansions like that. US sports leagues let basically everybody into the playoffs. I find it eye rolling.

We get 16 groups of three teams with the top two teams progressing. So to win the WC ypu still play 7 games. But its a matter of time before they go to 64. It will water down the tournament for sure.

I believe they will take penalties in case of a draw. that’s crazy. Just 2 guaranteed matches. Not sure I’m a fan. A draw becomes a massively better result too. You go through as long as you don’t lose basically. I’m assuming two groups will play in one location, especially with fewer games per team. Surely they won’t require 16 locations.

The US had to beat Iran for 2nd and we’ll see you in the next round if it happens

Im a fan of Team USA. In both matches played so far they were playing good football. Very energetic. If they reach the last 16 and play The Netherlands Im not sure if The Netherlands will beat USA. Im not scared but I am concerned.
The United States can have high hopes for 2026.
