Now that’s the kind of enthusiasm I expected from my fellow MCU fans. Not all this doom and gloom. Can we invite that guy here? Maybe I will watch the prequels instead of NWH and MoM. You mean the Star Wars prequels? I don’t get it.

Remember the good old days where I was pretty much treated like the antichrist because I made some criticism towards Marvel Studios "creative" decisions in the past? Good times!

Yeah, and honestly it’d be nice if we could all just acknowledge the extreme irony of that. Maybe joke a little bit about it then move on. A little self awareness is healthy. After all these are just comic book movies.

After all these are just comic book movies. I have to see the movies first before I pass judgement. But the trailer and rumors surrounding these two movies are exactly what I didnt want. But its fine in the end. You cant like everything a franchise releases. Its amazing it lasted as long as it did.

That's actually not a bad idea, Grandmaster . I'm overdue for a prequels re-watch myself. I haven't seen them in a while. I'm especially curious to see how the Padme and Anakin dynamics hold up for me across the films. Now that they're available on Disney+, there's really no excuse not to. I think the popular opinion is changing on those middle entries. Pro tip: after you watch RoTS, rewind the movie back to the beginning of the last saber fight(s). The next time you play it, it'll jump right to that scene and continue playing. From there, watch the movie on repeat as desired - instance bliss. You can thank me later.

Top tip: use intense concentration and self hypnosis to block the sight and sound of Jar Jar from your conscious mind. I have achieved this after years of practice. I no longer see or hear him and as a result, The Phantom Menace is actually kind of a fun movie.

I wish I could somehow find a way to do that^ (and do the same for whenever Kid Anakin's onscreen too). Unfortunately, I am unable to block out the horridness (and the stupid fast-forward button on my remote isn't working properly either, so I don't even have that as an option). For me to ever rewatch TPM again, it'd require two things: editing out Jar Jar and Kid Anakin (or, at the very least, removing their dialogue so both characters were mute). Until someone makes an edit of the movie where both characters' screentime is cut down to the absolute minimum, I can't subject myself to rewatching it again.

What makes Kid Anakin so bad? The fact that he was played by a miscast child actor who didn't know how to deliver a line to save himself and Lucas apparently cast because he found him 'cute' or whatever (I swear I recall either hearing or reading something to that effect in an interview around the time the movie came out) when there were so many other actually talented child actors who could've been cast instead (some even auditioned for the role). Also, Kid Anakin was written terribly/far too 'cutesy' (just like Jar Jar), thus making him annoying as hell, and I just found it difficult to believe any of the stuff he did in the movie which showed off his Jedi skills (a kid leading a squadron was completely laughable to watch). I just pretend TPM doesn't exist and it started with AotC (not an amazing movie by any stretch, but at least it doesn't have Kid Anakin and. mercifully, there's only one scene with Jar Jar....though I would've preferred a silent blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance like he had in RotS).

I pretty much agree. But now I personally kind of find his worst moments to be kind of unintentionally funny and therefore pretty innocuous. Like when he awkwardly shouts Yippee! It’s cheesy bad, to the point where it’s almost charming in a really silly sort of way. Whereas when Jar Jar says things like “ex-squeeze me” it is so cringey that it causes physical pain to listen to.

Take the 'it is so cringey that it causes physical pain' part of what you said and apply it to everything Kid Anakin and Jar Jar Binks do/say in TPM...and then you'll have an idea of how I feel about their characters.

Well he was a kid character, so I didnt really care. Thing is, he was strong with the force and he was destined to be Darth Vader and bring balance to it. So I didnt mind it

So I didnt mind it Okay, this should probably be the last time I post my thoughts on the matter since this thread has gotten quite OT (apologies for that), so I'll just say this... I'm someone who doesn't give any leeway to characters just because they're 'kid characters'. Generally, most kid characters in TV and movies annoy me - and part of that is because they're written that way (the other part being because they're played by bad child actors). However, on occasions I have watched something with actual decent kid characters who've been played by talented child actors - unfortunately, these seem to be few and far between, though it shows that it *is* possible to cast kid characters and write them well. Lucas made a big mistake by having it be that potential Jedi showed 'Force sensitivity' and began their training as children. It would've been better to establish that it occurred at adolescence, as at least then it would've looked like less of a joke. As it was, I just couldn't take Kid Anakin seriously when he was leading Squadrons in space and doing these things that looked so out-of-place for a kid to be doing. It'd be like watching a kid lead an army. Yes, they gave an explanation for why he was able to do it, but the visuals of a kid leading all these adults - combined with his crappy dialogue/delivery - just came across as laughable. I've read that Lucas said he made the prequels for his kids...and it shows. If you (and others) feel differently, then that's fine, but my thoughts/opinions on Kid Anakin and Jar Jar Binks are something that will never change no matter how much time passes.

Just to be clear I wasnt trying to be combative. Only that it made sense to me with Anakin kind of being a prodigy (it was sheer luck too). Although I can see it from your pov too. There are different levels of child actors

There are different levels of child actors Apologies if my last reply to you in the 'Doctor Strange' thread came across as 'combative'. I didn't intend it that way. I probably could've phrased what I said a bit better. I didn't mean to imply you were trying to start something. Others do, but you haven't, which I'm grateful for. I think part of what ticks me off is those who have no problem with a kid leading Squadrons, being able to do all sorts of miraculous things and whatnot, but seem to draw the line at a grown-up woman being able to fight. Heaven forbid a woman can fight! And indeed there are different levels of child actors - I just personally found the one who played Kid Anakin to be at the bottom. Anyway, we each have our own opinions on the subject and we're not going to change each other's mind, so I'll just leave it at a friendly 'agree to disagree' and hopefully I haven't offended you with anything I've said.
