Not happening. Weak box-office. The Gunn goes back into the Marvel holster.
It was brilliant by the way - every last sickening minute of it.

Hopefully it picks up in the coming days There’s no way this and Black Widow wouldn’t have made boatloads more money had they been theaters only releases. Such a horrendous mistake- one that may change the course of the industry forever. And those goons at WB already committed to a whole year of “dual format” releases! They’re in for one box office bomb after another now. Hopefully Disney goes theaters only for Shang Chi.

This is what Campea thought on why it didnt do that well: -pandemic -r-rated -first film baggage -unknown characters -devaluation of Harley Quinn due to her solo film -Will Smith sequel pattern -HBO Max a) people stayed home and watched it b) movie on tv is a lesser film (the stigma attached to it) -piracy -lack of appeal in marketing Personally, I think the major one is hbo max. Dumb decision...

I find it interesting how when a female-led superhero movie doesn't do well at the box office, then that means the movie's no good/"nobody wants to see female-led superhero movies", yet when a superhero movie primarily made up of a male cast doesn't do well...it's not the movie's fault.

Well, there's a reason for that. Some are obviously pushing for a female equality agenda and people will respond to that either in lack of BO returns and/or complaints

So long as he sticks to the Guardians and SS series only. I don't want a new Superman movie to be this heavily comedic graphic style...but with the Suicide Squad it works fine.

WB has a history of making awful dumb AF choices for its DC properties… so yeah, they’re probably going to give Gunn creative control over more movies. They can’t not make bad decisions!

There's plenty he could work on that isn't sacrosanct to the easily offended within the fandom. Hop Harrigan Blackhawks Challengers of the Unknown Congo Bill Shade the Changing Man Kid Eternity Justice League Dark I wanna see more faces blown right the fuck off! It was appropriate for a hard R war-themed movie, and I'm sure he'll find an intelligent way to work it in again. Ah, James Gunn, what a comeback story!

Oh yeah whatever happened to Spielberg and Blackhawks? That would have been a major get, talent-wise. Arguably better than anything Marvel has attracted to date I believe

If Gunn were to do a Superman film, Im positive it wouldnt be like that. He knows the difference. Probably why he picked Suicide Squad

He has a decent track record of eventually getting to the projects he says he will tackle publicly.

I thought Spielbergo totally should’ve directed Shazam. I think the only way I would’ve liked that property is if it were made as an 80s style Spielbergo movie. I mean, it kind of tried to be that, but didn’t really achieve it in my opinion. That character would’ve so perfect for him. Missed opportunity.

Arguably better than anything Marvel has attracted to date I believe Spielberg has entered that nebulous gray area where he’s both too ambitious and too lazy. He can’t even be bothered to direct Indiana Jones 5 at this point. He’s focused on these prestige projects but he then goes on autopilot for a blockbuster (granted, autopilot for him still means the movie itself is normally okay but not up to his usual standard). He’s probably too busy remaking Citizen Kane to even start filming Blackhawk. They should get someone like Stephen Sommers or Joe Johnston instead at this rate.

In all fairness, the inner lives of the ultra rich, newspaper publishing and investigative journalism must have seemed exciting to general audiences back in 1941.

Good choice of scribe. I think Blackhawks is exactly the type of movie the genre needs right now.

Lord Death Man quick update for Blackhawk. "We have a script that’s very good and we all think it's very good. There were a lot of management changes at Warner Bros, so I think we’ve just been kind of waiting for that to settle down and for them to decide what they want to do with their DC Universe. Obviously I hope he does it or if he doesn’t direct it, I hope he produces it, someone great directs. Because it would be a great deal of fun. I’m very fond of the script and I hope it comes together. But again, that’s one of those movies that’s gonna need $200 million so, trying to get those whales off the beach is a big process." movieweb.com/screenwriter-gives-hopeful-update-on-steven-spielberg-dc-movie-blackhawk/
