Gunpowder Gunpowder is also coming to The Boys season 3. The character did have a small cameo in season 1, but Gunpowder has been recast for his true introduction with Sean Patrick Flanery playing him now. Gunpowder is a member of the NRA-sponsored superteam known as Teenage Kix. His powers are directly connected to projectiles and guns, which is why The Boys previously used him as an advocate for Second Amendment. Gunpowder's role in The Boys season 3 has yet to be revealed, but he could be a former member of Teenage Kix or Soldier Boy's Payback team.

Blue Hawk Blue Hawk is a new character created for The Boys season 3 by all accounts, although he could be a rebranded hero from the comics just like Supersonic. Nick Wechsler is playing Blue Hawk regardless of his possible comic connection. Still, Blue Hawk could be The Boys' twist on Ground Hawk, a Wolverine parody character who has hammers for hands and a blue helmet in the comics. If that is the case, Blue Hawk's introduction could lead to the appearance of the G-Men, which might then help set up The Boys' college spinoff series.

Moonshadow
The Boys season 3 is also set to introduce another new Super character in the form of Moonshadow. She is based out of San Diego and appears to be an original creator for the series. Moonshadow's powers have yet to be revealed, but she was introduced in the September edition of Seven on 7 with Cameron Coleman. Moonshadow is described as a body-positive bombshell who is gaining in popularity as crime rates in San Diego go down. It is possible Moonshadow will be in consideration by Vought to join The Seven after losing Stormfront and bring more diversity to The Boys' most popular superhero team.

The ultimate parody of BvS and JL (both versions). Nobody sticks it to superhero movies quite like The Boys.

Just finished episode 1 of season 3....I enjoyed it. Theres enough blood and gore in this one episode to satisfy all those disappointed Moon Knight fans. I could watch Butcher and Homeland talk around murdering each other for an entire episode and not get bored. Homelander especially is just such an interesting character to me.

Alright…
I'll cop to it. Season 3 of The Boys is exceptional. It's better than the comic book, and it decimates Marvel/Disney, and DC on making the genre feel relevant.
I hate-read every issue of the Boys when it came out—each new contrived perversion was a slap in the face to fans of the genre. At one point, I'm sure I wanted Ennis dead (despite his excellent work on The Punisher).
A thoughtful adaptation of Herogasm—I did not see that coming.

I think that's a large reason I stopped reading the Boys. There was an anti-superhero trend in comics and I just kind of got tired of reading about terrible people donning costumes and calling themselves heroes or vigilantes. I read the Boys, Kick Ass and Irredeemable all too close to one another and got really burnt out on that style.

I hated how my coworkers thought the series was so bleeding edge; it was all they could talk about for almost an entire year. I was the lone holdout who thought mainstream Marvel and DC titles were still worth reading and collecting. I couldn't understand how people didn't see Ennis' utter disdain for the genre and the fans. Millar's Nemesis was out around the same time, too, and all everyone could say about it was how awesome it was. I just wanted to hang myself. I remember the tagline for Nemesis, "what if Batman was the Joker?" How cool is that, right!? Thinking back on it, I was probably a bit uptight about The Boys, but it really did seem like Ennis was doing his best to show how little he thought of the idea of superheroes and how stupid he thought the fans were. They're doing good work on the streaming series, though. And I think it's because they're toning down Ennis' more ruthless and depraved vision of the genre.

As crazy as it might be to believe...the comics go well beyond the shows levels of immorality. It's the tv series humanization of some key characters that makes it all worthwhile for me. Sure some are comically obscene but pretty much every main character has deeper emotions, flaws and character than they did in the comics...from what Ive read.

Sure some are comically obscene but pretty much every main character has deeper emotions, flaws and character than they did in the comics...from what Ive read. The live-action version of the Boys exponentially improves the human drama of the story over the comics. Ennis' unrelenting nihilism and depravity made Snyder look like a kitten-loving, tree hugger. School shooters in training everywhere swear by The Boys as the pinnacle of superhero literature. Still, there was a 90s-era precursor to that series that was an even more potent and ultraviolent satire on the superhero genre -- Marshal Law. The brainchild of Pat Mills and Kevin O'Neill, Marshal Law is arguably a better attempt at deconstructing the superhero genre. Conceived initially as a Judge Dredd knock-off, the superhuman Marshal conducts a one-man-war on the government-sanctioned "heroes" that survived "the big one" in a post-apocalyptic version of San Francisco called "San Futuro." I wouldn't be surprised if Ennis didn't directly rip off Mills and O'Neil. Homelander has an Aryan super thug analog in the Public Spirit, and the Marshal is essentially Billy Butcher with S&M flair. Every time the Marshal maimed, dismembered, or disemboweled a psychotic hero, I cheered and vicariously felt the satisfaction of the beatings he administered. He, too, had a girlfriend that was raped (and subsequently murdered) by a super-powered being. The difference between Marshal Law and the Boys is that the former maintains some semblance of humanity. The Boys just spiraled into depravity issue after disgusting issue with little rhyme or reason until near the end.
