Not to rewrite the movie, but I had this thought I wanted to get off my chest. If I could make one, pretty easy change to this film...as much as it pains me to say because I think she's beautiful...but I'd have had Mary have gone off to college and not shown up in the film, at least until the third act. I think theres a few things this couldve done to improve the film. 1. Mary is the only one older than Billy who has gone through the process of becoming an adult and being over 18. So if she is immediately whisked away to college I think that helps shore up Billys insecurities about what he's going to have to do when he turns 18. Whether he gets kicked to the curb or not. Especially if he doesn't have college in his future. 2. It leaves room for some of the other Shazamily. Its not that we spend a whole lot of time on Mary in this film, but having any of the scenes with her in the first half and replacing them with more from Darla, Pedro or Eugene couldve helped make some of those characters feel like more than glorified backround extras. We couldve still had Mary see the events on the news and show up for the fight in the final act or whatever, which is kind of all her character was there for anyway.
I don't think it would've made a HUGE difference, but its one easy rewrite that I noticed almost immediately after reflecting on the film that I think couldve gone a long way toward making Billys problems more front and center and also trimming some of the character fat we have with 6 Shazam kids, a wizard, 2 foster parents, 3 daughters of Atlas and a skittles commercial.

Zachary Levi has shared his doubts about returning as Shazam in the new DC Universe (DCU), noting Fury of the Gods was "not as well received" as the character's live-action debut in 2019's Shazam, and admitting: "I have no idea where we go from here."

Shazam is an easy one for the new DCU to part ways with. I have enjoyed both films to some degree but I don’t think the general audience would miss them.

Of all the DCEU movies released this year, this one got the most hate from the Razzies. Granted, I didn’t like this one either, but I figured they’d rather been piling on The Flash or Aquaman 2.
