George Lazenby is the only one I'm not a fan of. I do think OHMSS is perfectly fine though.

I love the Connery and Craig ones. Thunderball is my favorite. Of the Connery ones I love Goldfinger so much. Even if the gasdrop from the planes is too ridiculous for words.

I’ll use Chalice_Of_Evil ’s schema: Favorite Bond film of all: From Russia with Love (1963). Favorite Sean Connery Bond film: From Russia with Love. Favorite Roger Moore Bond film: The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). Favorite Timothy Dalton Bond film: Licence to Kill (1989). Favorite Pierce Brosnan Bond film: I guess The World Is Not Enough (1999). I guess? Not a fan of the Brosnans. Favorite Daniel Craig Bond film: Casino Royale (2006). Favorite Bond actor: Sean Connery. Favorite Bond girl: Tatiana Romanova (Daniela Bianchi), From Russia with Love. Underrated: Moonraker (first half excellent, second half goofy as anything, but that first half!), Octopussy (George MacDonald Fraser’s script is solid, execution not as much), Die Another Day (!—but actually my favorite Brosnan until it gets to the Ice Palace and the invisible car. Again, that first half!), Quantum of Solace (solid, harsh, effective sequel to CR, the movie Diamonds Are Forever should have been). I used to be a big fan of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service; it has some of the best things (opening, setting, Savalas’ Blofeld, Diana Rigg, the last scene) in the series, but it’s also long and clunky and Lazenby can’t pull the performance off, particularly the wit. Didn’t like Skyfall or Spectre.

That invisible car....
I think the worst thing ever happened to the Bond series. Its not for nothing they did a soft reboot after that.

A really good critic named Jaime Weinman wrote an incisive blog-post on this subject, but one of the things that always pleasantly surprises me about ’60s Bond is how well-done the dubbing is. Weird topic, but you don’t usually see dubbing this good. It’s really hard to tell that, say, Shirley Eaton, Daniela Bianchi, and Ursula Andress are dubbed.

I don’t know… According to most of the responses here (not sure how reliable), films try to get dialogue live and redub them if the quality is lousy, usually because the mikes couldn’t pick up the sound (as you say, usually outdoors). Either way, to be precise I should have written “revoicing,” not “dubbing.”

Either way, to be precise I should have written “revoicing,” not “dubbing.” Randy Thom: "The way ADR is treated and approached is symptomatic of how little respect sound gets in the movies. You march the actor into a cold sterile room and usually give them no time to get into the character or rehearse. They are expected to just start performing a few minutes after they walk into the room. The emphasis is almost always on getting the dialogue in sync instead of getting the right performance. Of course the majority of the actor's brain is then occupied with whether his lips are flapping at exactly the same rate as they were on the day that the camera was rolling. It is no wonder that most ADR is not very good. In the final mix, directors almost always prefer the production sound, even if it is noisy and distorted. One of the things you do with ADR to make it sound more like production sound is to pitch it up. ADR is almost always delivered at a lower pitch because the actor doesn't have the energy he/she had on the set. In the excitement of the shooting set the actor tends to talk louder and higher. In an ADR session, the director typically has to push the actor to get them anywhere near the level of vocal performance that came from the set. If the recording of ADR were treated more like shooting the movie it would almost certainly be better. Recording it in more authentic environments (instead of studios) tends to help the actors' performance enormously. Environmental noise is a problem whenever you record outside of a studio, but well worth the trade-off in my opinion."

The top names I keep hearing to replace Daniel Craig are Henry Cavill and James Norton. The former, that's no surprise and I'm good with that. I think Cavill did a bang-up job in The Man from UNCLE. I've only seen James Norton in a few supporting roles, I'm surprised he's being considered at all.

(Major exceptions: Moore, Brosnan, both known for television.)

I've only seen James Norton in a few supporting roles, I'm surprised he's being considered at all. I remember you mentioning James Norton's name on that other board we frequent. When his name, I was surprised, but it did make a certain kind of 'sense' to me. I've sen him in quite a few things (and not always is supporting roles either, but one of the leads). He's seemed a pretty 'solid' actor in most of the stuff I've sen him in. The last show I think I saw him in was the TV series McMafia - in a way, that almost felt like his 'unofficial' audition for Bond. As far as actors whose names have been thrown around for the role, his is far from the 'worst' I've heard (though it'd have to be another 'soft reboot' of sorts, as he seems quite a deal younger than the other actors who've played the role). Anyone excited for the next installment? Also who would you cast for the next James Bond? Any ideas Excited? Not overly (though I'm interested in seeing the first 'Bond girl' to be in a second film - at least that I can recall. Have any other 'Bond girls' ever appeared in more than one Bond film? If so, I don't remember). I'm sure things won't go too well for Léa Seydoux's character of Madeleine Swann (it'd be great if the movie subverted the obvious and had her neither die nor turn out to be 'bad' - but I think that's pretty unlikely). I'm also eager to see Ana de Armas' character (I'm hoping she doesn't turn out to be 'bad' either...but, again, I'm fairly certain that won't be the case). I didn't hate Spectre. This last movie could go a number of ways - it could end Craig's 'era' on a 'high note', it could be a disaster or it could just be 'decent' (I'm sure a lot of people will say it wasn't as 'good' as Skyfall - though, personally, that's the one movie of Daniel Craig's that I can't bring myself to rewatch). As for ideas...I'd held out hope for Noomi Rapace to play the main villain and Antje Traue (Faora from Man of Steel) to play her henchwoman, but I guess that's not going to happen now.

There was a girl that appeared in the first 2 Connery movies. I would have to look up her name. But she was sort of Bond's girlfriend at home in England. They obviously dropped that idea quickly.

Sylvia Trench, placed by Eunice Gayson. Too bad they dropped her, I liked her and liked that gag, though they had Moneypenny (whom I also like) for mostly the same reason.

Still haven’t seen the new Bond, but a few changes to my ranking above:
I’m embracing my goofy side and now think Moonraker is my favorite Moore and Die Another Day my favorite Brosnan. Should I run away and hide?
And I’ve rewatched OHMSS since Apr. 2020 (really, we made those schemas in Apr. 2020?) and found it really boring. Which is unfortunate, but I increasingly think my favorite Bond movies tend to be the sillier ones, like, oh, Moonraker and Die Another Day, not the ones that go for character and realism.
On the other hand, I still love From Russia with Love and Casino Royale. So I dunno.
Apropos of nothing much, Live and Let Die is one of those movies that I want to love every time I see it and just don’t. But that McCartney song is so good!

This scene is particularly BRILLIANT in its absurdity. I love how the “astronauts” inexplicably move in slow motion…
