Indeed. I am curious to know how Sony has weathered the pandemic. One can dream... Im still wishing they could/would have just turned to marvel after Civil War and Homecoming were so good and said “here’s the deal, we need to produce 2-3 films a year if our own, but we want to work with you. We’ll pay you x% as a producer fee and you get to incorporate our films in whatever way works best. Here’s the list of characters we want to use.”

Well to be fair
I have heard rumors of Sony Picture troubles way before the pandemic. According to rumors they were one bad box office year away from bankrupty. And then they made a deal with Marvel Studios. Homecoming and Far From Home made combined more than 2 billion. That saved Sony Pictures. However.... Covid may hurt them a lot.
It could very well be they get so desparate that they will ask Marvel Studios to buy the Spider-man rights back. Especially if their SPUMC or whatever fails. Venom did very well at the box office. We actually need Morbius and Venom 2 to fail... So Marvel can take the next step in reunification.

I'm not heavily invested in Sony going bankrupt or selling to another entity (like Apple). Building a shared universe around Spider-Man, his supporting characters, and rogues gallery is not sustainable, in my opinion. I believe Sony pushed for the multiverse storyline in Spider-Man 3 to legitimize their characters and the Spider-Man shared universe.

Morbius I can see flopping but Venom 2 will probably break even at the least
