Okay. They did it. A video based timeline of the Star Trek universe starting from creation... Apologies in advance if this video is geo-restricted. I couldn't embed the one on the CBS website, and it doesn't appear to be on YouTube yet. A Timeline Through the Star Trek Universe

Grandmaster, I just saw the season finale of Discovery. As a fan, I don't believe in excessive complaining or entitled whining. I am always an enthusiastic and optimistic fan of the things I love. That said, "That Hope Is You, Part 2" was just awful. It was a low for the series and the franchise as a whole. I have a litany of complaints about this season that I'd love to share on the PoC with other interested Star Trek fans.

You know when athletes on the Olympics run accross hurdles. Sometimes they are in the lead but trip on the last hurdle...
Thats Star Trek Discovery Season 3.
Such a great season with such a crappy finale.

Just finished watching Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard on Blu-ray and reviewed it. sakaar.freeforums.net/thread/82/tv-watching?page=13&scrollTo=22445I watched this interview with Patrick Stewart and Jeri Ryan before watching the show and have now revisited it after finishing the season. I love the two of them together. Here's hoping for more scenes with the both of them in Season 2 of the show. I hadn't seen this one until just now.

Speaking with The Live Feed yesterday right before Paramount’s Investors Day presentation that afternoon, producers Alex Kurtzman and Julie McNamara discussed what lies beyond both ‘Prodigy’ and “Strange New Worlds” which sees Anson Mount’s Christoper Pike return and lead the original Enterprise prior to Kirk’s tenure:
“McNamara: We are in discussions about the next phase of the Trek universe beyond those five shows that Alex has built. We are invested in growing the universe of Star Trek. That said, it’s important to make sure that we are curating these properly.
We’re always incubating a number of things together and then working out what the right cadence is and what the right next show is. Those are active and constant conversations. There are multiple things in the hopper right now that represent that next phase but we don’t want to expand it too much, too fast to where anyone is ever saying, “It’s just another Trek show.” We don’t want that.
Kurtzman: Yes, we’ve thought beyond the five [shows]. Yes, we’re having conversations about what happens beyond the five. But we have to make sure we’re staying true to the way we’ve built the first five. Each show is incredibly different, offers a specific thing, they’re not all targeted at the same audiences – but interestingly enough, they tend to bring in the same audience. It’s difficult to make something for everyone. You end up making something for no one when you take that approach.

Strange New Worlds writer Akiva Goldsman:
“It’s unlike the other shows in that it’s really episodic. If you think back to The Original Series, it was a tonally more liberal – I don’t mean in terms of politics, but it could sort of be more fluid. Like sometimes Robert Bloch would write a horror episode. Or Harlan Ellison would have “City on the Edge of Forever,” which is hard sci-fi. Then there would be comedic episodes, like “Shore Leave” or “The Trouble With Tribbles.”
So [co-showrunner] Henry Alonso Myers and myself are trying to serve that. We’ve all become very enamored, myself included, with serialized storytelling. And I’m talking to you from behind the stage where we’re shooting Picard, which is deeply serialized. But Strange New Worlds is very much adventure-of-the-week but with serialized character arcs… you can drop in, watch one, drop out, then watch another one later.”

on continuity with Discovery:
“It’s a fine line because obviously, we want to keep continuity with the storytelling and the style, but we also want Strange New Worlds to be a different show. It’s not Discovery. There are a few more reach-backs (to The Original Series) and the uniforms have been adjusted slightly, the sets are slightly different. Remember the Enterprise existed as a little piece of [the show Discovery], but now it’s its own object. When you close your eyes and think of the key sets and situations that you think of The Original Series, that’s what we’re looking to do.”

on PICARD:
“I think where our storytelling is complicated, if it is frustratingly so, it’s just our own fault for not doing it well enough. The great thing about plot complication and character excellence is they shouldn’t be mutually exclusive.
Even a really complicated plot should ultimately become invisible, that’s sort of the job of it. Chinatown being the example that we all endlessly lean on in our imaginations. [It’s] really complex and complicated, yet at the end of the day you just remember it’s about water. There’s this elegant disappearing act so the characters can shine”

on Q:
“[We] don’t pretend that the interstitial years didn’t happen. No, obviously, chronological time is less relevant to Q… We’re now talking about the issues that come up in the last [stage] of your life. We wanted a Q that could play in that arena with Picard.
There are a lot of people who think of Q as a trickster god, right? And he is. But he’s also a profoundly significant relationship in Picard’s life. There’s a lot of discussion in Picard season two about the nature of connectedness. Q’s kind of a great lightning rod for that because in some ways he’s one of Picard’s deepest – not deep in the same way that Riker is or Beverly Crusher was – but in its own uniquely, profoundly deep relationship.”

I recently finished watching Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 7, Episode 26: 'All Good Things... Part 2' (the final episode of the show, as far as I'm aware) on TV. They'd been repeating the series and this was my first time watching the show (though I missed some episodes here and there because they'd take the show off for a week or two for whatever reason and then put it back on and I wouldn't realise. I think I missed a good percentage of either Season 5 or Season 6). Now that I've finished the show, I can offer my thoughts on it (what I saw of it, anyway). It took me a while to get used to the cast in the beginning. Some of the acting felt a bit stiff and whatnot, but eventually I got accustomed to them. I actually grew to like Tasha Yar and was bummed when they unceremoniously offed her via malevolent alien oil slick. I was glad, though, that they managed to bring the actress back for a few episodes throughout the rest of the series (including the final episode), as it was good to see her again (I know others weren't a fan, but I liked her and her interaction with the other characters). It took me a while longer to grow to like Picard. Sometimes he seemed quite decent, then other times he could be very grumpy and his anger at certain things seemed unbalanced when compared to his non-reaction (or very understated reaction) to other things and sometimes he overreacted to stuff. When he was being friendly/understanding, he was likeable...though I wish he'd been less understanding/lenient with Wesley Crusher and told him to shut up more than that one time he did (which ended up as a meme). Speaking of the Annoying One, I can see why Wesley wound up being so 'unpopular'. It didn't take long to understand why, as within the first episode or two he was already annoying me. Unlike with Tasha, I can't say I enjoyed any of the episodes where he made a return appearance (I'd been so happy once he eventually left the show that any episode that featured him after that elicited an "ugh"-like response from me). He was especially intolerable in his last episode. The rest of the main characters/crew were all fairly decent/likeable. Riker could overact at times (or should I say Jonathan Frakes could), and I wondered what the deal with the beard was after Season 1 - I take it they just wanted him to look/come across as older? Well...mission accomplished. It certainly aged him (I had to laugh in the final episode when they used archive footage from the first Season of Riker when Picard was meant to be communicating with him. It was quite awkward-looking). I somehow missed noticing him doing his 'Riker Maneuver' of sitting down by moving one leg over the top of a chair (which was pointed out in the 'Honest Trailer' for the show). I liked Geordi more, as he seemed like a pretty decent guy (the actor who played him did well to convey so much with his eyes covered for the majority of the series) and he rarely seemed to get super-angry over things (and when he did get mad, it was usually with good reason). I really enjoyed his friendship with Data thought they were a great pair. Regarding Data, I mentioned this in my 'Who are your Top 5 Star Trek characters?' thread, but I thought Brent Spiner was able to bring so much to a character who was often referred to as a ‘robot'/'android', conveying a lot with just a look/reaction and making his character feel more ‘human’ than a lot of the actual human characters. It's easy to see why he became such a fan favourite, as he was definitely a stand-out amongst the cast of characters and clearly the writers kept giving him more material because he could obviously handle a range of different things. The episodes that focused on him seemed to be some of the 'best' in the show, his interaction with all the characters was enjoyable and I particularly loved the fact that he had a pet cat named Spot (though what was up with the apparent sex-change of Spot late into the series? I'm sure the cat was referred to as a 'him' early on and only became a 'her' towards the end). It was fun to see Spiner show such a range of emotions when he played other versions of Data, Data's 'twin', and Data in the holodeck. There were a lot of great comedic moments from his character, but he also had a lot of depth. Worf was someone who it took me quite a while to see any 'depth' with. In the beginning I found him to just be fairly one-note, but he improved as the series went on. He also had his fair share of amusing lines/moments. Something that was probably unintentionally funny, though, was him regularly getting his arse handed to him. And what was the deal with the sudden 'romance' between him and Deanna Troi? That seemed rather random (though I didn't entirely hate it, it just had so little lead-up and development that it didn't really feel 'natural'). I can't say I was that fond of Beverly Crusher in the early seasons of the show (I actually preferred her replacement for that one season - what was up with that, anyway? Why was Bev gone for a season and then back again?). She kind of annoyed me at times and some of her acting seemed weird when the show first started, but by the end of the series I'd come around to not minding her so much and she felt more natural in her line deliveries. As for Deanna Troi...well, first I must say I'd heard her name long ago when watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the character was referenced in it), and that name stuck out to me as I thought it was quite a nice name. I wasn't aware when watching this series that there were a percentage of people who didn't like her character. I think I first saw her in a couple of guest star appearances on Star Trek: Voyager, and to me she seemed pretty decent there. It was an adjustment going from that (and the last TNG movie, which I'd watched before ever watching this show) back to her at the beginning of the series - as she had a very particular way of talking. What was her accent exactly? She didn't seem to have a whole lot to do throughout the show and was even missing from several episodes, I noticed. Her psychic abilities seemed patchy (which the 'Honest Trailer' for the show also points out), it was weird during the episode when she lost that ability and she seemed to be quite unpleasant when she couldn't read thoughts (whereas usually she always seemed so calm and kind/caring), but on the whole I found her one of the more likeable of the crew. I did wonder why it took the show seven seasons to give her a Starfleet uniform like everyone else (though she did still break out the old cleavage-showing outfits on occasion). Again, it was weird that she suddenly hooked up with Worf whenever everything seemed to be leading to her and Riker getting together. Maybe some of the episodes I missed explored the relationship between her and Riker more (one episode they'd seem to be close, then the next couldn't be further apart). Anyway, since the first movie I ever saw with the TNG crew was the one where the two of them get married, I knew it all worked out in the end for them. One recurring character who I came to like was the Bajoran, Ro Laren. I was familiar with Michelle Forbes from other things I'd seen her in and so she provided a familiar face here. The earring she insisted on wearing reminded me of the current Doctor's earring in Doctor Who. At first she just seemed like another grumpy character who'd cause conflict with the rest, but they gradually showed more depth to her and I grew to be quite fond of her character. Sadly, though, she didn't part with Picard on good terms it seemed. It was sad to see him clearly angry over what she did, as I thought they had an interesting dynamic. I know 'Q' is well-liked by quite a few people, but he annoyed me greatly. He could be mildly amusing at times, but on the whole I really didn't think much of him. I found there were quite a few painfully boring episodes throughout the series (some fast-forwarding and even skipping said episodes was required), but then there were other episodes that really kept me interested. While it was a bit 'backwards' to go from the last TNG movie to the beginning of the series, it helped fill in some blanks (as I'm not very well-versed in ST at all). I'm still not sure what the different coloured shirts mean, though. I tried figuring it out, but can't make heads nor tails of each colour's significance. Anyway, I can now at least add another ST show to my slowly growing list of ST shows that I've watched. So long, TNG. It's been fun.
