I always watch the original trilogy around the holidays. Not really sure why. I guess because of the cozy nostalgia. So after thinking about the saga once again, I have decided it’s time for me to do a major retrospective on the series as a whole in order to finally and hopefully permanently come to terms with my recent disappointment.
So I’m going to review and rank ALL of the Star Wars movies! And what better place to do it than with my friends on Sakaar!
I won’t necessarily be rewatching every movie. Mainly I will just be putting some long stewing thoughts into words for therapeutic purposes.
Some of the following opinions may be extreme, even incendiary. But I strongly encourage everyone to join in and post their thoughts as I go through each movie! I will be spacing the posts out a bit with time in between, leaving room for others to post. I welcome all perspectives and opinions! This is going to be a group therapy session!

Okay here goes. Starting with the last place.
11) Solo
Getting right to my main issue with this movie: it shouldn’t even exist. It has no right to exist. And it’s very existence is offensive! Why? Because Han Solo is not from a series of novels or comic books, destined to be adapted again and again. Multiple Bonds? Yes. Ten actors playing Batman? Sure, why not. But Han Solo is Harrison Ford. He should never be played by another actor. And that’s not just because of the iconic status of Ford’s portrayal, but because there is no credible excuse for rebooting an original iconic movie character. It’s gratuitous at best, sacrilegious at worst. Who asked for this thing? Certainly not me.
And then there’s the actual movie. Objectively, in terms of quality, this probably isn’t the worst movie in the canon. But that’s really besides the point here, I think. I had a conversation with a friend after watching it. When I told him I hated it he replied “Why? It’s pretty innocuous.” And that reply just perfectly sums up this movie and why I despise it so. Star Wars was once the event movie series to end all event movie series. And now it has entires that are “harmless” forgettable blockbusters. And that to me is proof that Star Wars is truly dead.
Sorry about the mess.

Least favorite… Hm. Probably Solo. I don’t think it was terrible, but then again I don’t think anything of it. That’s the problem: it made no impact on me at all. So what you said! The Force Awakens isn’t that great either, and if I’m aiming for objectivity it’s probably the weakest I’ve seen. It has that generic blockbuster sense written all over it. One of the reasons I’ve so warmed up to Last Jedi is that it’s so devoted to being its own thing. Whether or not that’s good is what everyone fights over, but I have to admire a big-budget franchise movie that’s utterly and distinctively itself (and its director’s: TLJ has more in common with Knives Out than with Rise of Skywalker).

I actually enjoyed it, in theater. But then I tried to watch it a second time ( at home ) and I went like this:

Episode 2. That was the single worst love story ever penned, including Romeo and Juliet. It was Stockholm Syndrome. That isn't a love story, it's a case study.

10) The Rise of Skywalkster
Never before has the world seen such blatant pandering to a fan base. And never before has it failed so miserably. The opening crawl should read “Look! Palpo is back! You like him don’t you? Please like Star Wars again! Pleeeeease!” Not only does this movie reveal plainly that there was no planning whatsoever that went into the trilogy, it also demonstrates just how hollow Mr Abrams approach to filmmaking really is. His mystery box is filled with nothing but a desperate Hail Mary play. And almost all of the other big moments are of course stolen from the original trilogy.
But more than any of that, the one moment that sums up this sequel era more than anything else is an early action sequence (once again on a desert planet because why get creative now?). The main players are being chased by stormtroopers on speeder bikes (familiar?) and one of them suddenly ignites a jet pack. “They FLY now?” all of our heroes scream, not because there is any reason for them to be shocked but because they are suddenly nothing more than avatars for the audience, breaking the fourth wall to say “Look! This part wasn’t in the originals?” Wink. Wink. Just awful, self aware modern filmmaking at its worst. Rip off the original, but throw in some meta humor so that it all goes down smoothly. Who cares. It’s only the biggest franchise of all time we are laughing at here.
THE DEAD SPEAK! Tell them to SHUT UP!

I like the story of the movie. Its a great origin movie to me. Alden catches the spirit of Han Solo very well and does justice to the character and Harrison Ford. And Donald Glover as Lando.... Damn. Rank? I would rank it below the original trilogy, Rogue One, The Last Jedi but above the rest. It makes the the top 6. And I consider those 6 movies good. The rest is mediocre or even very bad (Yes Im talking about Attack of the Clowns)

Had this been a Lando origin instead, starring him, I might have even liked it!

I’m still mixed on it—it’s not good, but I thought some of it was entertaining, and I like it more than TFA—but, yeah, the plotting’s terrible. You’re right, Abrams clearly had no idea where he was going with any of this. And so many semi-interesting plot points are thrown away. I think the original concept we’ve talked about here would have been better.

Solo is great. It's full of fun and adventure and proves the character of Han Solo doesn't have to end with Harrison Ford.

9) Attack of the Clones
Wooden dialogue, one dimensional characters, over reliance on CGI, bad characterization... the common complaints about the prequels. It’s all here and then some! Episode two however, also lacks all of the positives aspects of the other two entires. The special effects -stellar in episodes one and three - are incredibly mediocre here. While Phantom Menace still looks gorgeous, Clones has aged horribly. It’s the first Star Wars movie shot digitally, and it shows. The movie looks like a bad cartoon.
The story is so inconsequential here that you could literally skip this movie and not miss a beat. Obi Wan’s big mystery subplot of who ordered the clone army is not only dull, it’s entirely unneeded. The choice to make episode one into what is basically a prologue adventure was an odd one, but episode two still feels like a prequel to the prequel events. Two whole movies before the actual Clone War begins?
Then there’s Anakin. One moment of meaningful character development takes places when his mother dies. The rest is dedicated to a love story. On its own, that’s a strange choice as most adventure movies wisely allow the romance to organically develop in the course of the adventure. Empire Strikes Back followed that formula to perfection. But in Clones it is the primary focus of the movie. And of course it doesn’t help that it happens to be the most awkward, unintentionally hilarious and downright creepy “love” story in movie history!
Many fans such as myself have reevaluated the prequels and found that there is a lot to like. But not here. Episode Two remains as terrible as it always has been.
I HATE SAND

I HATE SAND Well obi wan was investigating, what was it again? The assassin's bullet metal? Some metal anyway. I liked it fine. Yep a couple of lines were CW terrible but not all of the romance was bad. Also Padme was instrumental to Anakin falling to the dark side, although it was rushed Considering it was some years ago re cgi, it's fine in my book
