It's that time of year! The magical time when I decide to rewatch every single Marvel movie in my blu Ray collection!
I though it'd be fun to do a thread chronicling my journey through them. Comments are highly encouraged. You don't have to watch the movies but feel free to reply and offer your own opinions!
I'll do a quick post for each movie and keep a list here to rank them all as I watch them!
Marvel Movies from First to Worst...
1) Spiderman 2 X2 X Men United X Men Days of Future Past Spiderman 5) X Men Logan Spiderman 3 X Men First Class X Men Last Stand The Wolverine

X Men
A highly underrated, criminally under appreciated classic! To think this came out only three years after Batman and Robin! We owe the modern success of the genre to this movie - a comic book movie so soon after Arnold's Mr Freeze that starts with a holocaust flashback, and continues with such deep themes of diversity, prejudice and acceptance. And the casting! Stewart, McKellen, Jackman! Perfection. The team dynamic is also pretty good here. It's a shame it's only 90 minutes otherwise characters like Cyclops could've had more screen time. Not perfect, but a damn good Marvel movie to be sure!

X2
My only issue with this one is the sidelining of Cyclops. Man, that was annoying. Aside from that though this is another classic. A pitch perfect adaptation of the God Loves Man Kills comic. The plot structure is so perfect. The characters all shine (except for Cyclops). The themes are even richer than the first. Still the best X Men movie... And probably always will be.

X Men The Last Stand
Oh boy. This is where it starts to fall apart. There are some pretty stupid choices made with this one. But I still say the good cancels out the bad. It's not a great movie, but it's still very enjoyable and provides a somewhat satisfying end to the trilogy. Magneto is still awesome, the cure storyline is an interesting complication to the mutant struggle and Kelsey Grammer as Beast is just fantastic casting!

X Men First Class
This one never really clicked with me. I'm not sure why. It's pretty good though. Everything with Magneto is gold. Especially that scene where he literally has a bar of gold. Gold! Golden gold! And Hugh Jack-Man has the best cameo of all time. GO F--K YOURSELF!

X Men Days of Future Past
The last of the good X movies. And what a movie! This should've been the end of the younger cast because it's such a good payoff. To continue on with more "prequel" movies made zero sense. I would've loved one more with the original cast since they were all ressurected, but this one acts as a solid finale, with Logan being a superb epilogue.

There was absolutely no reason to make anymore with the young cast. It was a stupid move that sank the franchise.

The Wolverine
A mixed bag. The first act is pretty damn good. Seeing Wolverine in a Japanese prison camp in WWII before getting nuked by the Nagaski bomb is like something out of fanboy heaven. And the bear segment is a really nice homage to the comics. Act Two is pretty bland though. Who thought it was a good idea to cast a girl that looks like a teenager to play the love interest of a 50 year old man playing a 150 year old man? DUM! Mariko is also the most boring female lead I've ever seen in a comic book movie- and that includes Jane Foster! Then there's Act Three which flat out sucks. Overall, it's an entertaining but mediocre flick. Mangold is a solid director but this effort falls short.

Spiderman
What I love most about this movie is how it really captures the tone and feel of the Stan Lee era Spidey comics. It's not afraid to be campy but it also never demeans itself with self parody or meta humor. It's quirky and fun yet it always takes its characters seriously and plays its mythos straight. It also incredibly charming and has tons of heart. A classic, and for me, it's still Marvel's best origin story.

And the casting! Stewart, McKellen, Jackman! Perfection. The team dynamic is also pretty good here. It's a shame it's only 90 minutes otherwise characters like Cyclops could've had more screen time. Not perfect, but a damn good Marvel movie to be sure! Agree with this assessment. The opening Holocaust intro sets the tone of what the franchise is going for. A realisitic, grounded take (I know thats a frowned upon phrase) of the X-men world. I watched it again about 8 months ago and it holds up pretty well - besides the black leather and other pop references of the time. I wish they did give Cyclops more authority but I do love the glimpse of him as a confident field leader at the end when he's lining up his optic blast to fire at the spinning metal frame which Rogue is trapped in, I always thought that was very cool. I have a shot, I'm taking it.
Yes that's my only issue as well. Otherwise, this is probably the best paced comic book movie I've ever seen, right next to The Avengers. Each scene flows to the other so smoothly and progresses the story effortlessely. X-men 1 did have moments where is slowed down too much, here it's perfect.
I still enjoy this a lot. The direction and feel of the movie is very noticeably different to Singers first 2. X3 is a case of me wanting more on everything we got. I wanted more Angel character development. More Storm leading the X-men. More Iceman vs Pyro fued. More of Jean Grey fighting her instincts rather than just standing around. More Rogue being conflicted over the cure. More Kelsey Grammer, who was fantastic. Movie should have been 30 minutes longer, but even as it is its still easily better than Dark Phoenix 2019.
A solid semi-reboot. Some of the best scenes in the franchise. Magneto fishes out the submarine. Magneto stops the missiles. Magneto kills the Nazis in the bar. Magneto killing Shaw with the coin. Magneto turning the satellite. You can see why this movie was originally meant to be a Magneto solo origin. The only negative is I didn't care for the B-mutants like Angel, Banshee or Darwin (his death was unexplicable)
The best comic book movie ever imo. Wouldn't really change much other than I would have liked Rogue to emerge with her powers of flight to fight the Sentinels at the end. I wouldn't mind seeing Kitty play Logans role as in the comics, but I understand why Wolverine was chosen.
Very underrated. Awesome premise of having Logan go to Japan to fight the Yakuza. This is the first real comic movie to feature a predominant non-white cast, not Black Panther. That gets overlooked a lot. I agree Mariko didn't have much chemistry with Logan and their romance felt forced. I don't get why people have a problem with the 3rd act. This is a comic book movie yet critics complain about a giant silver samariu? Shows the hypocrisy when they love anything MCU related no matter how wacky it is, yet they think The Wolverines ending is stupid. Look at the critics consensus:
Although its final act succumbs to the usual cartoonish antics, The Wolverine is one superhero movie that manages to stay true to the comics while keeping casual viewers entertained.
''Final act succumbs to the usual cartoonish antics''. WTF? That describes every MCU movie made yet they all get free passes to high RT scores. Just another piece of evidence that non-MCU comic book movies are judged to a different standard.
